Both murderers were mages. Earlier, on the arena platform, many soldiers had been killed with ease.
For ordinary soldiers, it was best not to provoke such beings carelessly.
Listening to their conversation, Ailolin had not expected these soldiers to have no loyalty at all. They were merely people making a living for pay.
In that case, she had an idea.
She stepped out of the bushes.
"Ahem."
"Who goes there?!"
The soldiers raised their weapons and aimed them at Ailolin.
"I'm the murderer you're looking for."
Ailolin's tone was calm, but at the same time, she released the intimidating aura she had been suppressing.
These soldiers were all ordinary people. They had no hope whatsoever of defeating Ailolin.
Ailolin kicked over the large tree beside her, then looked at the soldiers.
Clang! Clang!
"Please spare us! We absolutely won't tell anyone we saw you!"
The soldiers threw their weapons to the ground and began begging Ailolin for mercy.
As expected, they were all cowards.
Ailolin told them not to panic, because she had a few questions to ask.
"You said the lord's daughter has gone missing? Tell me everything in detail."
"It's like this..."
The soldiers spoke over one another, revealing everything they knew.
Only then did Ailolin understand that she and Likaro had not been discovered at the arena earlier. The soldiers had sealed off the arena to search for the lord's daughter.
Ailolin had heard Likaro mention the lord's daughter before. She was supposedly a very kind girl, though unfortunately, she had an evil father.
But in truth, Ailolin had no interest in her. Besides, they were practically enemies who had killed each other's fathers.
So it was better to get straight to the point.
"If you don't want to be killed, help me do something."
"What is it? Just give the order!"
"I was actually hired by several knight orders..."
Ailolin told the soldiers the names of the knight orders Likaro had mentioned before.
"I want you to spread the news. Make sure as many people in the kingdom as possible know that the knight orders hired assassins to kill the lord."
"..."
The soldiers looked at one another. They did not understand why Ailolin wanted to do this. Was she betraying her employers? Or framing them?
Of course, Ailolin knew these soldiers would not readily agree to work for her. She needed some special methods.
So she raised her hand and pretended to cast [Gleaming Light] Dragon Language Magic on the soldiers.
This magic did no damage, but it had very pretty visual effects.
Seeing the soldiers staring blankly, Ailolin began her scam. "Do you know what magic I just cast on you?"
The soldiers repeatedly shook their heads.
"It was curse magic. If you don't do as I say, or if you dare tell anyone about this, you'll drop dead on the spot."
Upon hearing Ailolin's words, the soldiers' faces turned utterly horrified. They immediately fell to their knees and begged, "My lady! There's no need to go that far!"
"Hehe. If you agree to spread the news for me, the curse will lift itself after two months."
These soldiers were ordinary people. Magic was something completely beyond their understanding, so Ailolin's bluff left them thoroughly rattled.
"And don't even think about trying to remove the curse. Otherwise, it will activate immediately."
"Yes, yes, yes! We'll definitely do as you say!"
The soldiers had already been scared out of their wits. They had joined the lord's army only to earn a living. If their lives were threatened, they would not think too much about anything else. Staying alive came first.
They did not dare gamble with their lives, and Ailolin had seized that weakness perfectly.
"Go on, then. Remember what I said. Spread the names of those knight orders everywhere."
Watching the soldiers disappear from sight, Ailolin did not actually know whether it would work, but it was always worth trying.
Maybe it would really bring an unexpected surprise.
After returning, Ailolin told Likaro what she had done.
"Will that really work?"
"It's using someone else's knife to kill. We can just give it a try, though I'm not holding out much hope."
Ailolin felt that no matter the final outcome, neither she nor Likaro would lose anything.
Now that they were wanted again, the horses they had bought earlier were still being boarded in the city. It seemed they would not be able to go back and ride them anytime soon.
Now came the question: how were they supposed to spend today?
Likaro's experiment was to be a couple for one day, which meant anything beyond friendship was allowed today.
Ailolin calmed herself. In truth, she still did not dare do anything too excessive.
Last night, she had secretly kissed Likaro while she was asleep. If Likaro were awake like she was now, Ailolin would never dare.
Ailolin had already understood her own feelings. She liked Likaro. Although she had only spent a short time with Likaro after taking human form, affection had already blossomed within that brief time.
So what did Likaro think?
Ailolin did not dare ask directly, but today's experiment was the perfect opportunity. She could use it to find out whether Likaro had any feelings for her.
Although her body was female, Ailolin felt no resistance toward lesbian romance at all.
She just did not know Likaro's true feelings...
After all, even girls without an inclination toward the same sex would blush if they accidentally kissed another girl.
Today's experiment would show her whether Likaro was merely ordinarily shy, or truly had feelings for her.
Ailolin gathered her courage. Since they were playing a couple, they had to act like one.
Standing before Likaro, she softly said, "Dear, dear..."
Likaro was startled. Was she asking for a kiss?!
But since they were temporarily acting as a couple today, they had to do things couples did.
"Darling..." Ailolin finally forced out that embarrassing form of address.
However, Likaro had already shyly closed her eyes and kissed her.

Calamity Descends: The God of Calamity
"Mwah..."
Ailolin had not expected Likaro to be so proactive, and for a moment, she was unable to handle it.
Before kissing Ailolin, Likaro had already heard her say the word "darling."
But she only realized it after kissing her.
"Waaah! I misunderstood! I'm sorry!"
Likaro covered her flushed face and fled in panic, leaving Ailolin standing there in a daze.
After a while, Ailolin smiled. Another accident, huh? Honestly, so many accidents had happened between her and Likaro.
With so many accidents, it almost felt like fate...
She walked over to the extinguished campfire, picked up the backpack and staff from the ground, then chased after Likaro.
Likaro had not actually run far. She had deliberately slowed down to wait for Ailolin.
At that moment, she looked entirely like a shy young girl. All the bitterness and deep hatred she had carried before had vanished without a trace.
After Ailolin caught up, they walked side by side. They needed to head to the nearest village or town now. Having just assassinated the bearded lord, they would definitely be discovered if they returned to the previous city.
Suddenly, a soft hand grasped Ailolin's. She turned to look at Likaro and found her walking silently ahead with a flushed face.
Likaro seemed to have become very proactive.
They held hands in silence. Ailolin understood Likaro's shyness, so she tightened her grip.
Wasn't she shy too? But she also knew that if both of them were shy, then even if they had feelings, they would never be able to convey them.
So one of them had to be bolder.
"Likaro, do you like me?" Ailolin suddenly asked.
Likaro's expression became flustered. In the end, she said, "I-I haven't decided yet. Let's talk after the Couple Experiment ends tonight."
She was too shy to say I like you outright, so she could only choose to avoid it for now.
At the same time, she hoped that the Little Black Dragon would confess to her first.
A carriage traveled through the wilderness. Driving it was a gloomy old man whose eyes held not the slightest emotion. The skin on his body was deathly pale, making him seem like a corpse.
Inside the carriage lay a white-haired girl. Her eyes were closed, and her body did not move at all. It was impossible to tell whether she was unconscious or dead.
Eventually, the carriage arrived deep within a dense forest. The old man gently carried the girl down from the carriage and laid her on the ground.
He muttered something under his breath. Then, purple magic circles flashed around the girl's body, and the old man immediately knelt in worship.
"Honored God of Calamity, we await your return to this world!"
The old man took out an item resembling spatial storage equipment, then removed many incomparably precious materials from it.
Anyone knowledgeable would be able to tell that any one of these materials was worth a fortune. Some were even legendary materials that could not be found for hundreds or thousands of years.
These things were enough to make nations go to war and draw the continent's strongest beings here.
As the old man chanted, the materials on the ground gradually disintegrated, turning into black smoke that entered the white-haired girl's body.
In the blink of an eye, those precious materials vanished into nothing. In contrast, the magic circle on the ground had begun to glow.
Once everything was ready, the old man took out a dagger covered in black patterns and stabbed it into his own heart.
Then his body also began to disintegrate, using his own power to fuel the magic circle.
An ominous aura gradually spread outward. Every living creature within several miles was swept into it, including the horse that had pulled the carriage.
But just as the ominous aura was about to spread on a massive scale, everything suddenly fell silent.
No one knew how much time passed. The white-haired girl lying on the ground awoke. She slowly climbed to her feet, seeming extremely unaccustomed to her body.
Although the white-haired girl looked cute, an ominous aura radiated from every part of her body. Anyone who saw her would instinctively feel disgust.
Her sapphire-like eyes surveyed the surroundings.
"Mefiya? Very well. Since I have returned to the mortal world, I shall graciously use your name."
Mefiya tried to familiarize herself with her body. She took a few steps, and every flower and blade of grass she passed withered at a visible speed.
Seeing this, she withdrew the Calamity Power emanating from within her. At the same time, the ominous feeling around her disappeared as well.
Judging by appearance alone, she was simply an ordinary white-haired, blue-eyed girl.
"Thank you."
Before leaving the forest, Mefiya spoke toward the spot where the old man had sacrificed himself.
He might have been her last loyal apostle in this world.
But it did not matter. As the God of Calamity, gaining apostles was a very simple matter for her.
The original owner of this body's soul had already disappeared, but her memories remained.
