Background / History

Likaro was born into the Aidefalong ducal family as the daughter of Duke Wilfen and Doris. At eight years old, she had virtually no combat ability, but already wanted to learn swordsmanship so that she could protect herself. Her Magic Spring Constitution—an immense reserve of regenerative, element-compatible magic power—led Wilfen to favor a magical education instead. 2

She first encountered the newly born Ailolin in Edafalon Forest. Although frightened at first, she chose not to reveal the young dragon’s existence after realizing that people might hunt her for profit. Likaro instead searched for information on Dragonkind, then taught Ailolin Human language with drawings, beginner textbooks, and simple arithmetic. 4 6 8

Likaro dreamed of becoming a free knight who traveled the world, helped the weak, and upheld justice. Adventure novels also inspired her desire to become a Dragon Knight, prompting repeated childhood attempts to climb onto Ailolin’s back. Before Ailolin departed the forest, Likaro prepared Recording Crystals to preserve their farewell. 10 12 13

During a later attack, Likaro escaped while her mother and escorting soldiers gave their lives or freedom to protect her. Her desperation awakened the Magic Spring, after which Vidian rescued her in the Southern Wilderness. The experience shattered her childhood confidence: she realized that ideals of heroism did not make her capable of protecting those she loved. 20 21 22

After recovering, Likaro finally began sword training and eventually studied magic as well. At seventeen, she traveled to the Southern Wilderness to prove herself, then journeyed to the Lumbart Kingdom, where she founded the Crescent Moon Knights. The order grew rapidly through its commitment to helping the weak. 31 32 34

The Crescent Moon Knights were destroyed after refugees whom Likaro had aided exposed the fortress’s weak points to hostile nobles and knight orders. A Lumbart lord also participated because he desired Likaro for himself. As the sole survivor, she became wanted by the kingdom, abandoned her knightly ideals, and resolved to pursue revenge through her own strength rather than her father’s influence. 33 34 35 44

Ailolin eventually found Likaro in the Lumbart Kingdom. Their reunion allowed Likaro to share the grief and guilt she had carried alone, and Ailolin joined her campaign against the people responsible for the Crescent Moon Knights’ destruction. 39 40 41

Likaro is a golden-haired young woman whose appearance was striking even as a child. Her golden hair appears especially vivid in sunlight; she was described as cute while possessing a budding heroic spirit. 2

As a child, Likaro was lively, curious, sincere, and unusually determined. She patiently taught Ailolin Human language for hours at a time, took risks to visit her in the forest, and felt protective enough of the abandoned dragon to imagine herself as Ailolin’s mother. 4 6

Her early idealism centered on knighthood. She wanted freedom rather than inherited prestige, dreaming of traveling widely, protecting the weak, and becoming a knight known for justice. She also showed strong independence, refusing to rely on her father’s influence even after becoming a wanted fugitive. 10 33 35

The destruction of the Crescent Moon Knights made her guarded, distrustful, and consumed by self-blame. She believed that her inexperience as a commander had caused her companions’ deaths, and initially treated kindness toward strangers as dangerous naivety. 34 40
