Background / History

Vidian once had a gentle, kind nature and enjoyed helping others. After a human friend she loved died young, Vidian withdrew from her other friends and isolated herself in the Southern Wilderness, trying to bury the pain of that loss. The deceased girl's lingering obsession created an illusion that remained beside Vidian; for a time, Vidian believed that illusion was still the real person. 26 27 61

Although she had been exiled from Dragonkind for undisclosed reasons, Vidian retained extensive knowledge of dragons, their language, inheritance, and magic. She lived alone near the Southern Wilderness for many years, maintaining limited contact with acquaintances through messenger beasts. 14 15 20 26

Xiya's letter, accompanied by forget-me-not petals, forced Vidian to confront the grief she had suppressed. Ailolin and Likaro's comfort helped her accept that she could cherish new bonds without betraying the memory of the person she had lost. Vidian resumed contact with her old friends and eventually left the wilderness to seek them out. 26 27 28 30

Appearance

In human form, Vidian appears to be a young adult woman and can easily be mistaken for a human. Her youthful appearance contrasts with her knowledge of events and Dragonkind dating back more than fifty years. 14

Her coldness is largely a defense against grief. She is naturally compassionate and repeatedly helps others when circumstances allow, including rescuing and caring for Likaro despite claiming she does not seek friendship. 21 22 26 29

As a teacher, Vidian is strict, observant, and willing to tease her students. She pushes Ailolin through demanding magical-beast hunts and magic training, but adjusts her lessons to compensate for Ailolin's incomplete inheritance and low magic reserves. 15 16 28

During the Empire-wide magical-beast attacks, Vidian remains politically neutral but investigates the strategic Teleportation Array out of curiosity. She later finds Likaro collapsed from a Magic Outburst, saves her life, and shelters her alongside Ailolin. 19 21 22

Reconciliation and Departure

Xiya's letter reopens Vidian's old wounds, but Ailolin and Likaro help her acknowledge her grief instead of continuing to run from it. Having reconnected with her former self and old friends, Vidian leaves the Southern Wilderness to travel the world. 26 27 30
