Background / History
Hongjun accepted Qing Xuanzi as a disciple after Pangu had foreseen that a Heavenly Dao spokesperson would seek one. He monitored Qing Xuanzi’s cultivation, explained why his merits had been offset by demerits, and questioned whether he could reach the peak of Hunyuan Golden Immortal within ten thousand years 2.
As Qing Xuanzi’s master, Hongjun guided him through major cultivation milestones. He recognized that Qing Xuanzi’s thirty-six-petal bloom would draw Heavenly Tribulation, then instructed him to condense a Blessing Seed from the Heavenly Blessing that followed 4. He also helped Qing Xuanzi deceive Jie Yin and Zhunti, ultimately using the Heavenly Dao’s punishment to force them to expel Qing Xuanzi after their oath-bound recruitment scheme 5 6.
Hongjun’s relationship with the Heavenly Dao is deeply conflicted. Having harmonized with it, he is bound to the Dao yet openly regrets the decision; the two can oppose one another from within the same Heavenly Dao framework 18 22. He later blocks the Heavenly Dao from entering Purple Cloud Palace and repeatedly invokes “Great Dao Judgment” to frustrate its threats and negotiations 30.
He became increasingly involved in preparations against the mutated Heavenly Dao, Chaos Demon Gods, and the Heavenly Dao Sect. Hongjun privately revealed the Heavenly Dao’s mutation and warned Qing Xuanzi that their plan had to be completed before his Dao Harmonization Nirvana Stage 18. He later helped organize the Primordial Era’s defenses, guided the Heavenly Dao toward recognizing its own errors, and fought directly during the Heavenly Dao Sect’s invasion 65 156 157.
Personality
Hongjun is stern, authoritative, and highly protective of his disciples. His intervention against Zhunti establishes that he will personally confront threats to Qing Xuanzi, even when other Saints consider such favoritism excessive 13.
Despite his solemn reputation, he can be exasperated by Qing Xuanzi’s unruly behavior and quietly amused by his disciples’ arguments 35 104. He favors long-term strategy over impulsive retaliation: he stops Qing Xuanzi from cursing the Heavenly Dao and redirects him toward creating the Netherworld instead 51.
