Appearance

The Great Dao most often manifests as a vast vertical eye, also called the Eye of the Great Dao. Its presence overwhelms the pressure of the Heavenly Dao. 29 88

Personality

Though it is a cosmic authority, the Great Dao is repeatedly portrayed with unusually human-like reactions. It resents being awakened unnecessarily, once warning the Heavenly Dao not to disturb it again, and later reacts with confusion when Qing Xuanzi's breakthroughs repeatedly shake Chaos. 29 115 116

The Great Dao protects cultivators bearing Sacrificial Dao Luck, as their existence serves its own evolution. It supports Qing Xuanzi against threats to that luck, but it is not omnipotent: its World-Extinguishing Millstone could not immediately defeat the Ancient Dao Tree. 83 88 89

Great Dao Judgment

The Great Dao can judge and discipline the Heavenly Dao when summoned through the Great Dao Judgment.

• It erased the Purple Cloud Divine Lightning aimed at Qing Xuanzi and expelled the Heavenly Dao's controlling “small eye” from Hongjun. 29
• It warned the Heavenly Dao that another breach of conduct could result in its dismantlement. 29
• Qing Xuanzi's Great Dao Judgment was a contingency left by Pangu and could only be used twice at the Mixed Origin Great Luo Golden Immortal realm. 29

Dao Tribulation

The Great Dao can impose a Dao Tribulation upon entities that violate its rules.

• When the Heavenly Dao threatened Qing Xuanzi and the Di Dao, the Great Dao declared that it had broken Heavenly Dao rules and sent a Dao Tribulation. 88
• The tribulation manifested through the World-Extinguishing Millstone, which crushed portions of the Heavenly Dao Space into nothingness. 88
• The Ancient Dao Tree resisted the Millstone, leaving the Great Dao and Heavenly Dao in a stalemate. 88 89

The Great Dao grants aid and rewards to beings aligned with its interests.

• Qing Xuanzi can invoke a Great Dao Blessing, receiving golden light before confronting Karma and Shi Chen. 91

The Great Dao governs broader Dao principles and calamities beyond the Heavenly Dao's authority.

• The Great Dao's own cultivation is described as a process of reincarnation and accumulation toward the Dao Immortal realm. 91
• Following the Primordial Era's later transformation, the Great Dao no longer controls the world directly; it spreads the Dao while the awakened will of Primordial Heaven and Earth governs the world. 159

History

Qing Xuanzi first directly summoned the Great Dao during the crisis at Purple Cloud Palace. The Great Dao intervened against Heavenly Dao Hongjun, restored Hongjun's autonomy by removing the controlling presence within him, and spared the Heavenly Dao with a final warning. 29

As Qing Xuanzi's Sacrificial Dao Luck awakened, the Great Dao became a recurring protector. When the Ancient Dao Tree-backed Heavenly Dao threatened the Di Dao and Human Dao, the Great Dao responded with a Dao Tribulation. Its intervention also gave Qing Xuanzi leverage to force the Heavenly Dao into yielding an Ancient Dao Tree branch. 83 88 89

The Great Dao was repeatedly stirred by Qing Xuanzi's later actions, including his breakthroughs and manipulation of Kalpa-level power. It recognized Qing Xuanzi as its appointed agent and ultimately accepted the restored Buddha Dao from him, rewarding the act with Great Dao Merit. 115 116 154

After the Primordial Era advanced and its Heaven-and-Earth will awakened, the Great Dao's role within that world changed. The Primordial Era ceased to have a Heavenly Dao; the Great Dao remained as the force responsible for disseminating the Dao rather than administering the world. 159
