Background / History

Sakazuki is an Admiral of Marine Headquarters whose doctrine of Absolute Justice demands the complete eradication of evil. Recruits assigned to his unit fear his reputation for extreme battlefield discipline and lethal intolerance of cowardice or disobedience, while Rochi sees service under him as an opportunity to fight stronger pirates without restraint 16.

He leads a force into the New World against the 500-million-Beli Mad Axe Pirates and their four-thousand-man grand fleet. At Saintingburg Kingdom, he opens the assault by launching Meteor Volcano at the pirate-held port, annihilating ships and engulfing the coastline in magma 17 18.

Sakazuki takes a strong interest in Rochi after observing his killing intent, combat results, and refusal to spare surrendering pirates. He exceptionally promotes Rochi to lieutenant commander, later offers him a lieutenant post, and seeks to shape him into a feared Marine executioner 21 22.

When Vice Admiral Karon transfers Rochi to the Elite Training Camp, Sakazuki personally confronts Karon and forces the issue with a threat of a one-on-one duel. Rochi ultimately chooses to leave with Sakazuki for the New World, where Sakazuki trains him in Haki and repeatedly sends him into dangerous battles over the following three years 23 24 26.
