Background / History

Kerl was formerly an active New World pirate known as the “Bone Carver.” Three years before his death, he robbed a Heavenly Tribute vessel and injured attendants and guards of the Celestial Dragons. He was also held responsible for the deaths of at least ten Marines, earning a 75,000,000-Beli bounty. 35

After fleeing the New World, Kerl hid on Aoki Island. He used stolen money to establish a clinic, treated residents without charge, distributed food, and offered practical help to local fishermen. The islanders came to regard him as a saint and defended him when Cipher Pol arrived to arrest him. 35 36

His charitable image concealed a cellar beneath the clinic courtyard filled with children’s bones. Kerl had used the town’s gratitude and loyalty as protection against the World Government while preying on missing children. 37 38

The operation was complicated by Kerl’s popularity among the islanders. When residents formed a human barrier to protect him, Rochi incapacitated them with his killing aura, forcing Kerl to reveal his violent nature and engage in battle. 36

Kerl’s fear of damage to a specific section of the clinic courtyard broke his combat rhythm. Rochi exploited the opening, pierced Kerl’s heart with Finger Pistol: Shura Piercing, and snapped his neck after rejecting Kerl’s claims of moral righteousness. 37

After Kerl’s death, Rochi destroyed the protected courtyard and exposed the hidden cellar of children’s bones, shattering the islanders’ belief in their doctor. 38
