Background / History

Lace was a capable female officer in Marine Headquarters' administrative system before Fleet Admiral Sengoku personally selected her as adjutant for the newly promoted Colonel Rochi. Her assignment was to assist Rochi in taking command of the corrupt G-8 Branch. 27

She initially resented the prospect of being assigned to a young commander, but her attitude changed immediately after witnessing eighteen-year-old Rochi perform ten thousand squats with several-ton gravity machines. Recognizing his abnormal physical strength and the confidence placed in him by Sakazuki and Sengoku, she replaced her initial disdain with awe and professional respect. 27

Before departing Marineford, Lace delivered Sengoku's sealed confidential order to Rochi. During the two-day voyage to G-8, she observed Rochi's relentless training and meditation, concluding that serving under him would offer no ordinary life. 27 28

Upon reaching G-8, Lace openly denounces the branch's refusal to receive its new commander and demands that the guards recognize Rochi's appointment. When the branch soldiers threaten Rochi after Bard is struck down, she defends his authority at gunpoint. 28 29

Enforcement of Rochi's Regime

Lace announces Rochi's harsh new training rules and later tries unsuccessfully to calm soldiers frustrated by his refusal to leave them pirate kills. 30

After the G-8 deserters are purged, Lace commands the Headquarters troops to open fire. She also receives Rochi's order to build a Jingguan from the deserters' heads. 31
