Heaven on the Left, I Go Right

As the white light shooting from the window grew brighter and more blinding, everyone lowered their heads and raised their hands to shield their eyes.

"100% energy input!" Howard shouted. Sparks and white smoke erupted from the experimental equipment before everything finally came to a stop. The intense light gradually faded, and the enhancement chamber stood silently in place without the slightest movement.

"Howard, I need you to open the chamber." Dr. Erskine motioned for Howard to open the enhancement chamber.

Under everyone's anxious gazes, the enhancement chamber slowly opened, revealing a tall, powerfully built figure.

Seeing that the experiment had succeeded, Han Lin secretly breathed a sigh of relief. But this was not over yet. He needed to ensure that Dr. Erskine survived.

The experiment had succeeded. Dr. Erskine helped Steve out of the chamber.

"I did it," Steve said weakly. The tremendous pain of the enhancement process had nearly made him unable to endure.

"We succeeded!" Steve's body was even taller and stronger than in the movie, proving that the new serum was more powerful than the original. Han Lin felt that this was undoubtedly thanks to him.

"Yes, we succeeded!" Dr. Erskine was calmer than expected, while Howard was somewhat excited. "You really did it!"

Agent Carter strode forward. Looking at Steve's upper body, at those explosively powerful muscles gleaming beneath the lights, Carter—who already had a rather favorable impression of Steve—could not help feeling flustered.

"How do you feel?" Carter asked after taking a deep breath.

"Taller," Steve replied weakly.

Agent Carter resisted the urge to touch Steve and handed him his T-shirt to put on.

"You do look taller."

While everyone was immersed in the excitement of success, the Hydra spy who had infiltrated the facility met Dr. Erskine's eyes. Han Lin stood beside the doctor, watching the assassin's every move. After surveying the room, the assassin used his lighter to detonate the explosives he had left in the observation room.

Boom... Amid the glow of the blast, the assassin took advantage of the chaos to snatch the last vial of Super Soldier Serum and fired two shots at Dr. Erskine. One bullet flew toward his head. Han Lin had activated his Danger Perception and Dynamic Vision from the start of the experiment, and he used his left shoulder to block it. "Blood" instantly soaked Han Lin's shoulder and Dr. Erskine's abdomen.

Steve felt the fury in his heart ignite. Seeing Dr. Erskine lying on the ground and pretending to be dead, Steve ran after the assassin. Agent Carter did not chase after him as she had in the original; she needed to handle the aftermath here.

After ushering all the high-ranking officials and politicians out of the laboratory,

only Han Lin, Agent Carter, Howard Stark, and Dr. Erskine's "corpse" remained in the laboratory.

Looking at the laboratory, which was not littered with debris, Howard sighed sincerely. "Han Lin, you've proven your prophecy once again."

Han Lin smiled and shook his head. "I told you, I'm not a good person, but I'm not a bad one either. I want the world I live in to become a better place. That is what I seek in life. I'm not a god, but my abilities can let the people I cherish meet God a little later. Heaven is on the left, and I go right. If fate wants to toy with us, then I'll break it. Don't you agree, Dr. Erskine?"

Dr. Erskine, who was still lying on the ground pretending to be a "corpse," quickly got to his feet. "Howard, you bastard! Why didn't you tell me it would hurt this much? I feel like I coughed up my stomach acid, and my ribs are broken. I need a doctor."

Howard smiled and nodded. "Looks like the bulletproof vest is good quality. Doctor, you were the first to wear it. This is excellent test data."

"FXXK YOU!" Supported by Han Lin, Dr. Erskine cursed as he was placed on a stretcher and covered with a white sheet. The three of them quickly left the underground laboratory with Dr. Erskine.

Howard took Dr. Erskine to a secret experimental base that Stark Industries had built at great expense. The medical staff briefly examined Dr. Erskine's injuries. They were only minor bone fractures, and his internal organs had not been harmed. He only needed rest.

Han Lin, meanwhile, headed after Steve. Those two Hydra mini-submarines would be of great use to Stark.

After a running start, Han Lin raced up a wall and leaped swiftly between buildings. The moment he saw the two cars collide, he knew the assassin would not escape. He jumped down from above, leaving two deep pits in the ground, then hid among the crowd and watched Steve struggle with the assassin.

Having just gained superhuman strength, Steve watched helplessly as Dr. Erskine, the man who had created the miracle with his own hands, was shot dead. Furious, Steve got up and chased after the assassin.

The Hydra spy fought his way out, killing several guards as well as the female owner of the antique shop guarding the secret laboratory's exterior. With help from his accomplices, he escaped by car.

With Agent Carter absent to stop him, Steve emerged just in time to see the fleeing vehicle vanish around a corner. He quickly commandeered a taxi, floored the accelerator, and gave chase, watching the black car speed through traffic from a street away.

Steve accelerated and rammed his car into the driver's side of the black vehicle at the next corner. The overturned vehicle rolled several times, and the assassin in the passenger seat quickly jumped out and ran toward the docks.

Using the controller on his body, he brought his submarine to the surface. He jumped inside and quickly dove underwater. Before the submarine could submerge, Steve had already smashed through its windshield and thrown the assassin onto the ground.

The blue Super Soldier Serum also shattered on the ground under Steve's brute force.

Seeing this, Han Lin felt it was time for him to step in. A living Hydra spy was far more valuable than a dead one.

"Who the hell are you?" Steve roared angrily.

"Just the vanguard. Cut off one head..." The assassin's mouth was clamped shut by a hand...

Han Lin tightly gripped the man's mouth. "Stop your little trick. Two more will grow back? Then I'll cut off every head Hydra has. This might hurt a little, so bear with it."

He pulled out every single tooth from the man's mouth. Since he was unsure how many poison teeth the man had, Han Lin inhumanely extracted them all.

"Steve, take him back and hand him over to Colonel Phillips later. I think we need to try some harsh interrogation methods before he tells us everything we want to know." Han Lin walked to the edge of the dock and washed the blood from his hands as he spoke to Steve.

Steve looked at the assassin, whose face had turned purple from pain, then looked at Han Lin, unsure how to describe what he felt. He had originally thought that after being enhanced, he would at least not be weaker than Han Lin. But the speed and strength Han Lin had just displayed gave Steve a profound understanding of his enhanced body: Han Lin was still somewhat stronger than him.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Han Lin asked, somewhat puzzled.

After pondering for a long while, Steve said, "Lin, you're dangerous. I don't know if it's just an illusion, but what you did just now nearly made me hit you."

Han Lin smiled at Steve. "If you want someone to practice with, then after we finish dealing with these trivial matters, we can have a match. Let me see what's different about the Super Soldier Serum. After all, I'm one of its developers. I need a complete understanding of its effects."

Steve nodded. After waiting at the docks for Stark to arrive with a large group of soldiers and take away the mini-submarine, Steve carried the assassin, who had passed out from pain, into Howard's car.
