As order after order was issued, the entire European battlefield underwent tremendous changes. Elite soldiers from many units were transferred and gathered together, only to suddenly discover that many of them already knew one another.
The changes across the European battlefield gave the German Army and Hydra an unusual feeling.
Because Han Lin had been conducting a large-scale purge of Hydra spies within the United States, those who had not yet been exposed were terrified. As a result, no spy had leaked the news of Han Lin's arrival at the battlefield.
So the German Army and Hydra had been watching to see what the Allies intended to do. The entire battlefield fell into a tense stalemate. The German Army did not take the initiative to attack, while the Allies moved their troops into position. Both sides knew a great battle was coming, yet neither knew who was behind this operation.
Although the Allies' senior commanders knew what had happened, General Eisenhower had strictly restricted their movements recently. All telegraph facilities and radios were under inspection, so even spies had no way to send information out.
The German Army did not know what the Allies' large-scale operation was for, so they deployed more men along the front lines. The entire battlefield grew increasingly tense.
As time passed, truckloads of war supplies and German weapons were delivered to the Strategic Scientific Reserve's camp.
On the night two days later, Han Lin received good news from Nick Fury and the other two.
The moment Han Lin received the news, he went to the medical tent. Seeing that Nick Fury could already get out of bed and was in good condition, Han Lin could not help marveling at the power of the Infinite Formula.
"Buddy, how do you feel?" Han Lin walked up to Nick Fury and asked.
"Not bad. You might not believe it, but I saw hell in my dreams. It was incredible. Didn't you retire? Why are you back here?"
Nick Fury was still somewhat weak, but the Infinite Formula's power had regenerated the burned skin tissue. Overall, he was no longer in any serious danger. His eye's internal nerves had been damaged, and he could only get a prosthetic eye after retiring.
Han Lin patted the tough man and said, "I came to see my old subordinate—and pull him back from hell while I was at it!"
Steve had also received the news and rushed in from outside the tent. Seeing that Nick Fury was no longer in serious condition, Steve let out a long breath.
He stepped forward and gave Nick Fury a light hug before saying apologetically, "Brother, thank you. If you hadn't held them off, I might have been the one seriously injured! I'm sorry you suffered such severe injuries because of me."
Nick Fury patted Steve's shoulder. "No matter who had been there, I would have saved them. Besides, aren't I fine now? Don't blame yourself, Steve. Even if I had died, it would still have been better than you dying. You can lead us to victory, while I can only be a captain. So don't blame yourself. I'm fine now!"
Looking at this one-eyed, hairy boiled egg, Han Lin became increasingly certain that he was the legendary S.H.I.E.L.D. director and agent of the future.
Han Lin watched the two close friends comfort each other. "Since you're fine, let's discuss tomorrow's arrangements. Nick, how is your body? Can you go to the battlefield tomorrow?"
Nick Fury assessed his condition, nodded firmly, and said, "No problem! I feel like I could squeeze out a little more. I'm a bit hungry, but nothing else is affected." As he spoke, he gave a salute.
Han Lin sighed at the Infinite Formula's effects and said, "Tomorrow, we'll lead more than four thousand men into all-out war. These four thousand are elite soldiers we rescued. I want you to command the main force, while I lead Steve to open up the front for you. Understood?"
Nick Fury was slightly stunned to hear that he would command such a large force, but he immediately answered respectfully, "Yes, sir."
Han Lin did not say much else. They would not set out until the afternoon tomorrow, and no matter what, the movement of an entire corps could not be hidden from the enemy. So it was better to be open about it and attack directly in the afternoon.
He had Nick Fury rest properly for another day before assigning him his mission tomorrow.
The next morning, all the soldiers in the base had assembled. Standing on the reviewing platform and looking at the densely packed troops below, Han Lin felt somewhat emotional. The people he had rescued bit by bit had gathered into such a large force.
Of the original five thousand-plus men, some had been wounded or crippled, while others had died in battle. Only 4,300 remained.
"I believe all of you know me, but I cannot possibly know everyone here. My name is Han Lin, and I am Chinese. I came here this time without a rank. I came to the battlefield representing myself. The reason I gathered you together is because I do not want traitors in my team.
"All of you were brought out of Hydra bases by me. I saw your determination not to give up, so this time, we will return everything the Nazis gave us. Are you willing to follow this civilian and drive the Nazis out of your countries?"
Han Lin's words instantly ignited the soldiers' fighting spirit. The entire corps erupted in thunderous roars.
At noon, the entire force set out for the front. Four gigantic tanks led the way, followed by energy tanks and energy artillery vehicles, then ordinary tanks and troop carriers.
The mighty column advanced toward the front lines.
With Han Lin's unit joining the fight, no frontline fortress or base could stop his forces. Sustaining themselves through battle, Han Lin led them in sweeping through twenty-seven strongholds and two Hydra Research Bases in two months.
The soldiers under Han Lin had all replaced their weapons with energy weapons. With Dr. Zola's return, it seemed that the energy weapons in Hydra's hands had been further enhanced.
The power of a single shot from the new energy rifle was roughly equivalent to a rifle grenade. Its blast radius was large, and once it struck a target, the energy would erupt directly.
The original energy guns caused energy to spread through the target's body and dissolve the enemy. The new ones instead detonated the energy, creating an area-of-effect attack.
The weapons were far more powerful and could be considered miniature energy cannons.
However, due to current technological limitations, their rate of fire was still much slower than that of rifles. A one-second charging interval was more than enough for ordinary soldiers, but Han Lin found it too sluggish, seriously affecting his killing efficiency.
Han Lin felt that using two M1911s would be faster for killing enemies. Against ordinary foes, a normal bullet and a low-powered shell made little difference to him. They both killed people, so why not do it with a little more artistry?
In truth, Schmidt had been too hasty. Mass-deploying powerful weapons that had never been tested in actual combat threw all of Hydra's defenses into disarray. This was also why they had suffered defeat after defeat.
Although Hydra had been defending all along, Han Lin and Steve created chaos from within, while Nick Fury commanded the gigantic tanks and energy tanks outside to bombard them. The overwhelming firepower gave the enemy no chance of victory.
The one-sided battlefield forced the German Army to retreat again and again. All the research bases withdrew to the rear, leaving behind several unmanned bases, while Han Lin led his main force forward time after time.
When Han Lin launched the final offensive, major changes also occurred within the United States and Hydra. They caused a tremendous shift in the entire war.
