Background / History

Rayson is a transmigrator from Earth who arrived in the pirate world approximately one month before the story’s opening. After obtaining Beastly Strength from a dead beast, he awakened the Strongest Trait System, which lets him identify, plunder, equip, and improve abilities categorized as traits. He boarded a noble passenger ship specifically to seek stronger traits rather than merely survive in the East Blue. 1

On the ship, Rayson encountered Luffy and Koby. After reading Koby’s trait panel, he knocked Koby unconscious and seized his Navigation, Conqueror’s Haki, and Factional Fortune traits. He rejected Koby’s Faction Betrayal trait on principle, as he despises betrayal of one’s companions. 3 4

Luffy’s invitation gave Rayson an opportunity to synchronize the future Straw Hat captain’s traits. Rayson joined as Luffy’s first crewmate, initially serving as navigator while planning to use the crew’s future encounters with powerful pirates to strengthen himself. 5 9

He adopted the title “Heavenly King” both to establish a fearsome reputation and to reinforce his bond with Luffy, whose dream is to become Pirate King. Morgans subsequently publicized him as an exceptional East Blue rookie, and the World Economy News Paper described him as a potential new king of the seas. 7 9 44

Personality

Rayson is calm, calculating, and opportunistic. He constantly evaluates people through the value of their traits, plans several steps ahead, and treats major pirate conflicts as chances to improve himself. His long-term goals include acquiring powerful Devil Fruit abilities, growing through Factional Fortune, and becoming strong enough to profit from the coming Summit War. 7 10

Despite his ruthlessness toward enemies and trait targets, Rayson places genuine importance on companionship. His condemnation of Koby’s betrayal resonated with Luffy, and he later chose to reveal his Plunder ability to his own crew rather than conceal it and create distance. 3 35
