Background

Kuina is Koushirou's daughter and the senior sister at his dojo. Before Lin Yan's arrival, she was already an accomplished young swordswoman, regularly defeating Zoro despite his persistent challenges. She initially mistakes Lin Yan for a threat to the dojo and attacks him with a wooden sword, only to be effortlessly disarmed. Embarrassed by the encounter, she nevertheless becomes curious about—and admiring of—his overwhelming swordsmanship 311 312 314 315.

Her ambition is to become the world's greatest swordsman. Koushirou eventually tries to make her abandon that dream, believing her obsession with training and the physical limits of his strength-based sword style will destroy her. While overexerting herself to prepare, Kuina falls from a ladder and suffers a critical head injury.
