Background / History

Ancient Xiao Tribe

The Xiao Clan was once an Emperor Clan among the Ancient Eight Tribes. Its ancestor, Xiao Xuan, was one of the continent's foremost experts. A thousand years before the present story, the Soul Clan besieged and gravely wounded Xiao Xuan during a war between the two clans. The Xiao Clan was defeated, and its surviving members scattered across the continent. 2

The Soul Clan continued hunting the survivors because the Xiao Clan possessed one fragment of the Tou She Ancient God Jade. Gathering all eight fragments could open the Ancient Emperor Cave Abode and reveal the secret to becoming an emperor. 2

Decline in the Northwest Continent

One surviving branch eventually settled in the Jia Ma Empire, where its heritage and strength steadily faded. By the time Xiao Han returned, the clan relied entirely on Xiao Lin, a single Dou Wang, and planned to abandon the imperial capital after his presumed death. 1 2

Xiao Han healed Xiao Lin, disclosed the clan's true history, and ordered the family to abandon the imperial capital anyway. Remaining visible and rapidly rising there would attract the Soul Hall—and, by extension, the Soul Clan—to the surviving Xiao branch. 1 2 3

The clan migrated to Wutan City under a policy of concealment. During the journey, Xiao Zhan permitted retaliatory attacks against pursuing scouts but ordered the clan not to expose its newly gained Dou Ling experts. 12

Rise in Wutan City

With Xiao Han and Yi Huang supplying cultivation resources, the Xiao Clan transformed from a vulnerable provincial family into Wutan City's strongest local power. It seized a third of the city's market, maintained cooperation with the Mittel Auction House, and deterred the Oba and Gale families from using force through its Da Dou Shi-level personnel. 10 46

The clan invested heavily in junior cultivation, using medicinal baths, body-tempering resources, and rare herbs to strengthen meridians before Dou Qi cultivation. This reduced the age at which its juniors could reach Dou Zhe, though the early-stage training cost was immense. 79

Restoration of the Ancient Clan

As the clan's strength grew, it secretly established or influenced multiple factions in the Central Plains through scattered Xiao Clan branches. Individually these forces were limited, but together they could form a significant reserve force. 236

The recovery of Xiao Xuan and the surviving Xiao Clan experts in the Heavenly Tomb marked the return of the old clan's leadership. Xiao Xuan accepted the descendants' achievements, reunited with his former subordinates, and began preparing the clan for revenge against the Soul Clan. 312 315

After Xiao Han's breakthrough to Dou Di, the Xiao Clan's dormant Dou Di Bloodline awakened. This restored its standing as a true ancient emperor clan rather than merely a powerful clan bearing an ancient name. 378
