Meanwhile, a cloud of black mist sped across a thousand miles to a deep mountain range. As though guided by something, it plunged straight into the old Daoist meditating in the mountains.
The old Daoist inwardly cried out in alarm. Before he could cast a spell to investigate where this force had come from, his soul shook violently. Agonizing pain surged through him, and with a miserable scream, his body exploded into pieces, scattering severed limbs and flesh across the ground.
By the time everyone arrived home, it was nearly two in the morning. Chu Yanxiao was surprisingly still awake, leaning against the window and watching outside. The moment he saw the car pull in, he immediately ran downstairs to greet them.
He knew everyone had gone to save his brother today. He had wanted to go too, but his early education class had lessons, so he was muddleheadedly sent off to school. After coming home from class, he had waited in the house the entire time, forcing himself to stay awake despite being very sleepy.
His little legs moved quickly as he rushed straight into Chu Xuan's arms after he got out of the car. The sleepiness in his eyes vanished at once. "Brother, you didn't die, did you?"
His younger brother's concern warmed Chu Xuan's heart. He nodded. "Mm, Brother is fine now. Nothing will happen to me again!"
After receiving that reassuring answer, Chu Yanxiao did not linger in his brother's embrace at all. He went straight to Su Minghui.
"Hello, Auntie!" Chu Yanxiao greeted her obediently. Realizing that since Su Minghui was here, Su Leyun had to be here too, he hurriedly asked, "Where's my little wife?"
Su Minghui lifted the small blanket in her arms and crouched slightly to show him. "He's sleeping."
It was late at night, so Fu Siwen quickly had Father Chu take the two children to bed while she brought Su Minghui to the room that had already been prepared. Chu Yanxiao kept thinking about it and tossed and turned, unable to sleep. In the end, he secretly slipped out of his room and headed toward Su Leyun's room.
As he came out, he happened to run into Fu Siwen, who had just come from Su Minghui's room. A mother knew her son best, so Fu Siwen hurriedly reminded him, "Don't disturb Lele while he's sleeping!"
Chu Yanxiao ran too fast for anyone to stop him. "I'll just take a look at him!"
When he reached the doorway, Chu Yanxiao stopped and gently pushed the door open. Su Minghui smiled and did not stop him. He tiptoed carefully toward Su Leyun's crib, leaned against its edge, and stared at him for a long while.
Su Leyun was sleeping deeply, his breathing long and heavy, his little face flushed pink.
He was just too adorable.
He suddenly rose onto his tiptoes and gently kissed Su Leyun on the forehead. Then he whispered by his ear, "Good night, little wife."
The next day.
Chu Yanxiao had class in the morning. Though he had not fully woken up yet, he forced himself out of bed to wash up. By the time he was ready to leave, it was only a little past eight.
Using the bathroom as an excuse, he actually ran into Su Minghui's room, wanting to greet Su Leyun and chat with him before going to school.
Perhaps Su Minghui had been too exhausted from preparing for the ritual these past few days, as she was still sound asleep. Chu Yanxiao crept to Su Leyun's crib and saw that he was still in the same position with the same expression as last night, sleeping deeply.
Chu Yanxiao felt a little disappointed. He had wanted to talk to Su Leyun before going to school, but not disturbing someone while they slept was basic manners. He watched him for a while before preparing to leave for class.
Unexpectedly, because the room was dimly lit, Chu Yanxiao accidentally bumped into a vase on his way out. The vase fell onto the carpet. Though it did not break, it still made a tremendous noise, directly waking Su Minghui from her sleep.
Knowing he had caused trouble, Chu Yanxiao quickly picked up the vase and hugged it as he apologized to Su Minghui. "Sorry, Auntie. I didn't mean to. I just wanted to talk to my little wife."
Though Su Minghui was still groggy from sleep, she did not blame him. Instead, she said, "It's all right. Lele should be awake by now. You can go take another look at him."
"Really?" Chu Yanxiao was overjoyed. He casually set down the vase and ran over again, only to find Su Leyun still sleeping peacefully in his crib.
"Lele is still asleep."
Su Minghui frowned when she heard that and came over to look as well. Chu Yanxiao had indeed been right. Su Leyun's eyes were tightly shut, without the slightest sign of waking.
Su Minghui felt that something was very wrong. She hurriedly checked the time, and that made her feel even more certain that something was off.
It had already been eight hours since last night. Normally, Su Leyun would have woken up long ago to drink milk. Besides, the vase had made such a loud noise just now. How could it possibly have had no effect on him at all?
She gently nudged him with her hand, but Su Leyun did not react in the slightest.
She hurriedly picked Su Leyun up, but despite such a large movement, even his eyelids did not twitch. He lay obediently in her arms like a doll.
Chu Yanxiao sharply sensed from Su Minghui's expression that something was wrong. He called out several times in succession, "Little wife! Little wife! Wake up already! The sun is shining on your butt!"
The two of them took turns trying, but Su Leyun remained completely unmoved, as though he were separated from the world by a barrier and could not be reached by outside sounds or touch.
Su Minghui checked his pulse, listened to his breathing and heartbeat, and reached out to feel his temperature. Everything was normal. He was simply deeply asleep and would not wake up.
Seeing Su Leyun like this, Chu Yanxiao's eyes suddenly reddened. His mouth trembled, and he burst into loud tears.
Fu Siwen had been looking for him. The moment she heard crying, both she and Father Chu hurried over and asked, "What happened? Did something happen?"
Su Minghui looked anxiously at Su Leyun, still trying to wake him. "Lele has been sleeping the whole time. No matter how we call him, he won't wake up."
Fu Siwen was also shocked. She leaned over to look at Su Leyun. "How could this happen?"
Chu Yanxiao spoke through his tears. "Mom, is my little wife dead? Am I not going to have a wife anymore?"
He still preferred it when his little wife argued back at him. Seeing him lie there so motionless truly frightened him.
Those words immediately earned him a slap on the butt from Fu Siwen, followed by her hand covering his mouth. "If you don't know how to speak, then don't speak! Minghui, don't worry. Lele will be fine!"
Father Chu also furrowed his brow and immediately took out his phone to call the family doctor. "Someone in the house is unwell. Come to the second floor right away."
After hanging up, he reassured them, "The doctor will be here soon. Lele will be fine."
The Chu Family's family doctor lived in another villa next door. After Father Chu's call, the doctor hurried over with his medical case before long. Su Minghui quickly laid Su Leyun flat on the bed and let the doctor examine him.
The doctor did not dare delay and immediately began checking Su Leyun's vital signs one by one. Every pair of eyes in the room followed his hands. For a moment, the room was so quiet that only everyone's breathing could be heard.
