"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh~~~~~"
A gale howled. Above the distant North Sea stood a solitary island as vast as a continent, shrouded in haze and impossible to see clearly. Countless great formations operated within it!
On the island, dense innate spiritual qi drifted through the air as countless spirit beasts frolicked about!
Sunlight refracted down from the sky, shining upon the spirit beasts playing on the island. It was warm but never scorching. At times, a breeze would blow in and play with them. Flowers bloomed with confidence, while grass and trees shimmered with green. Dense heaven-and-earth spiritual qi condensed into misty droplets, like white clouds drifting through the sky. Everything brimmed with vitality, like an immortal realm!
Countless vivid flowers and unknown wild fruits dotted every corner—lakes, thickets, lawns, and trees. They were more than mere decorations. The spirit beasts, utterly unlike their outward appearances, sometimes gathered together in merry laughing clusters, wandering here and there with boundless charm. They were truly carefree beyond measure!
Not far away, stalks of bamboo rose tall and proud. They were never lonely, for they grew in clusters. The dense bamboo grove seemed to have too many leaves, bending the bamboo outward as though gazing into the distance, like a great green flower!
Two bamboo cottages stood amid the grove, like a paradise beyond the world, yet also like the dwelling of reclusive sages!
Inside one of the bamboo cottages, Mu Jizi and Kunpeng sat cross-legged, drinking tea and conversing. Naturally, this tea had been planted on the island by Mu Jizi based on the methods of later generations!
Steam curled through the room. The two either discussed the Great Dao, spoke of strange tales, or talked about exotic beasts. They truly lived the life of immortals!
But at that moment, the winds and clouds changed color. Wild gales surged, followed by a thunderous explosion. Then two roars rang through heaven and earth. Mu Jizi and Kunpeng's expressions changed. Both swiftly calculated with their fingers and immediately understood the cause and effect!
"The two races of Witches and Demons have emerged. Chaos is about to rise in the Primordial Wilderness!"
With a soft sigh, Mu Jizi did not know what he felt at that moment. He wished for the era of Witches and Demons to arrive sooner, yet he also wished to continue living this peaceful life!
Drinking tea and discussing the Dao was carefree and joyous enough! But without the Primordial Purple Qi distributed by Hongjun—the foundation of sainthood—how could one become a saint?
Without becoming a saint, one would remain an ant to the end!
"Big Brother is right!" Kunpeng suddenly frowned and answered distractedly.
With the emergence of the Demon Race, he seemed to hold a faint anticipation in his heart. Yet he did not quite know what that anticipation was for!
Seeing this, Mu Jizi's heart stirred. "Worthy Brother, could it be that you calculated something?"
"Yes and no!" A trace of confusion appeared in Kunpeng's eyes. "When I calculated just now, I discovered that I held a faint anticipation toward the Demon Race, but I do not know why!"
"Oh?" Mu Jizi raised a brow. He knew that the Demon Race's future emperors would arrange for Kunpeng to become the Demon Master, precisely because Kunpeng held an immense position within the Demon Race. Winning Kunpeng's wholehearted submission would further stabilize their own standing among the Demon Race!
As for why Kunpeng possessed such an immense position within the Demon Race, it was said that when the Demon Race had first been born, Kunpeng traveled throughout the Primordial Wilderness and created Demon Script, passing down methods of cultivation. This allowed the ancient Demon Race to cease merely breathing in and out by instinct, instead cultivating the Dao with purpose. He had the merit of enlightening the Demon Race!
Could it be that Kunpeng was about to create Demon Script and take charge of enlightenment?
Mu Jizi's heart stirred. Yet he neither pointed it out nor taught him directly, merely smiling casually. "Worthy Brother, if we examine it carefully, you and I are also members of the Demon Race. It is only natural for us to hold expectations toward the Demon Race!"
"That does make sense!" Kunpeng nodded, his brows still tightly furrowed as he fell silent.
Just then, a sudden cracking explosion sounded from outside the bamboo cottage!
Mu Jizi and Kunpeng extended their divine senses to take a look, then could not help laughing. It turned out to be a spirit beast whose clumsy body had somehow knocked over a large tree!
After leaving the bamboo cottage, Mu Jizi pointed at the spirit beast and said, "The spirit beasts here have yet to gain intelligence and do not understand the workings of heaven. They play about every day and damage some spirit trees. It is quite a troublesome matter!"
Hearing this, Kunpeng gave it no further thought. He assumed that, as the elder of the spirit trees, his brother could not bear to see them damaged. Thus, he smiled faintly. "That is easily handled. Why not pass down Dao methods so the spirit beasts on the island may awaken their intelligence?"
"Open an altar and preach the Dao?" Mu Jizi raised his brows and smiled. "The island is far too vast, and the spirit beasts are scattered all around. Opening an altar to preach the Dao would be exceedingly troublesome!"
"Hehe, Brother is too modest! This island was created through Brother's great divine power. Transmitting your voice while preaching the Dao is but a trifling skill; naturally, it would not trouble Brother!" Kunpeng chuckled and, without thinking too much, continued, "This is not your foolish brother boasting, but even I could use my magic power while preaching at an altar to make my voice reach the entire island without issue, much less Brother!"
"Hehe, that is true enough!" Mu Jizi smiled as though smiling, yet not smiling. "Then what if it were the entire Primordial Wilderness?"
Kunpeng's entire body jolted as if enlightenment had struck him.
At that moment, Mu Jizi pressed onward and continued, "Throughout the Primordial Wilderness, spirit beasts are countless, and most are members of the Demon Race. Yet they have not awakened their intelligence and do not understand the workings of heaven. One can well imagine what their future prospects will be!"
After saying this, Mu Jizi spoke no more. He glanced at Kunpeng, who seemed to have gained some understanding, then took a step and returned to the bamboo cottage!
He had already given Kunpeng this much guidance. The rest could only depend on Kunpeng's own comprehension...
Outside the bamboo cottage, Kunpeng stood there, faint understanding dawning in his heart. Drawn by the Heavenly Dao, countless images suddenly and abruptly appeared in his mind!
Kunpeng was overjoyed and immediately entered seclusion. After a thousand years of study, he finally created Demon Script.
The moment Demon Script appeared, the Heavenly Dao immediately sensed it. Under a wave of guidance, the Demon Race across the Primordial Wilderness suddenly found words appearing in their minds, followed by a cultivation method. The demon beasts rejoiced and all knelt in the direction of the North Sea, saying, "Boundless Heavenly Venerable!"
The words that appeared in those demons' minds at that moment were the earliest inherited memories!
"Buzzz~~~~"
Ripples spread across the sky, and an otherworldly fragrance suddenly descended. A bean-sized ball of Merit Divine Light fell from the heavens—it was the Heavenly Dao's reward!
As that ball of Merit Divine Light descended from the heights, around one-tenth of it separated and floated toward Mu Jizi. Mu Jizi did not absorb it. With a casual wave of his hand, he put it away!
The remaining nine-tenths of the Merit Divine Light shot directly into Kunpeng's body. In an instant, after the Merit Divine Light entered him, Kunpeng found that all the things he had once failed to understand became clear at once. His cultivation soared like a rocket, climbing all the way to the peak of Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal! Had Hongjun not yet preached the Dao, leaving him ignorant of the method to prove the Dao, he might have used this merit to draw forth his Good Corpse and sever it, achieving the Dao Fruit of a Quasi-Sect Master!
Even so, much merit remained. Though it could not help him sever a corpse, it manifested behind his head as a halo of Merit Divine Light. (Think of how, whenever Guanyin Bodhisattva appeared in Journey to the West, divine light would gather behind her head!)
A massive halo gathered behind Kunpeng's head, forming an existence like a blazing sun. His face was filled with benevolence—he truly looked like an accomplished master of the Dao...
