After receiving a warning from a maidservant, he investigates the back mountain alone and finds the first key clue to the village's hidden tragedy. He is later selected to disguise himself as a bride and lure out the Ghost Bridegroom. 4 5 7

The Ghost Bridegroom seizes control of Wen Jian's body, mistakes him for Lin, and drags him into the well and cave where previous brides died. Feng Yue cuts the controlling spell, allowing Wen Jian to treat an injured ally before fleeing toward the sword light as ordered. 5 6
