Background / History

Lin Huaixu was the outstanding disciple of the late Eighth Elder. From a young age, he frequented gambling dens and flower houses, becoming proficient in cards, chess, dice, fortune sticks, and storytelling. His fondness for gossip eventually made him famous throughout the Profound Heaven Sect. 23

During the Outer Sect Grand Competition, Lin Huaixu was away from the sect on business, forcing Lin Mumu to take over the formation-related responsibilities he would otherwise have handled. 15 He returned shortly afterward with fresh news from his travels, only to be summoned by True Person Yu Qing and informed of Shen Yuxi’s leaking inner voice. 23

True Person Yu Qing placed a strengthened Silencing Spell on Lin Huaixu to prevent him from spreading the secret outside the sect. Lin Huaixu immediately searched for loopholes, reasoning that the restriction did not stop him from discussing the matter with fellow disciples. 23

A Brief Respite

Lin Huaixu returns to the Profound Heaven Sect after time away and learns of Shen Yuxi’s anomalous inner voice. Despite being ordered not to reveal the matter to outsiders, he immediately begins collecting gossip from within the sect and organizes a gathering of the personal disciples. 23 24

At the gathering, he reveals Shen Yuxi’s statements about Lin Mumu’s future partner, the Four Clans and Three Monarchies, and Feng Yue’s missing marriage-alliance partner. His information pushes Feng Yue into an unwanted confrontation with his own family arrangements. 24 25

Flower-Appreciation Gathering

At True Person Yu Qing’s request, Lin Huaixu arranges the Profound Heaven Sect disciples’ attendance at Medicine King Valley’s Flower-Appreciation Gathering. He ensures Shen Yuxi attends by presenting the trip as an opportunity for treatment, then helps draw Chu Shihan into joining the group. 29

In Medicine King Valley, Lin Huaixu provides historical context on sect rivalries, repeatedly teases Wen Jian, and interferes when Gu Xiaoyue attempts to probe Wen Jian for information. 31 33 36 He also tries unsuccessfully to persuade Chu Shihan to join the martial contest for Gu Yueyao’s hand. 38

Secret Realm

Lin Huaixu arrives after Shen Yuxi and Wen Jian are pursued by an eagle-shaped demonic beast. He joins Shen Yuxi and Ye Jingxuan in defeating it, using a chess formation as ranged support. 49

Afterward, he continues through the secret realm with Shen Yuxi, Wen Jian, and Ye Jingxuan. His eye for value helps the group identify valuable spirit plants, while his combat ability improves their collection efficiency. 50
