Background / History

Lin Huaixu was the outstanding disciple of the late Eighth Elder, Wei Qingshuang, also known as True Person Yu Zhen. From a young age, he frequented gambling dens and flower houses, becoming proficient in cards, chess, dice, fortune sticks, and storytelling. His fondness for gossip eventually made him famous throughout the Profound Heaven Sect. 23 112

Before becoming a personal disciple, Lin Huaixu entered the Profound Heaven Sect as a roughly clad youth. During the inner sect trials, he relied on his intuitive grasp of formations to defeat Shen Liangxian’s advantages in cultivation and background. Though both qualified for the inner sect, neither initially became a personal disciple. 96

Lin Huaixu’s early conflict with Shen Liangxian continued after entering the sect. He repeatedly avoided Shen Liangxian’s attempts to suppress him by baiting his opponents into attacking first or arranging for Law Enforcement Hall disciples to witness the incidents. Following the death of his original master, Lin Huaixu nominally became Yulan True Person’s disciple, but he never addressed Yulan as “Master.” 112

Although his reputation for gossip began as a means of gathering intelligence, the activity gradually became both a personal pastime and an addiction. Lin Huaixu is pragmatic to the point of severity. He believes that strength, wealth, and power are necessary foundations for helping others, and that lofty ideals without the willingness to fight for them are empty. His blunt counsel on this subject helped Chu Shihan reconsider his responsibilities as Eldest Senior Brother. 180

Despite his casual manner, Lin Huaixu can be calculating, patient, and ruthless when pursuing justice or protecting the sect. He was willing to become the apparent villain in order to draw out information regarding Yulan, even after recognizing that his actions could cause Shen Yuxi harm. 113 129

At True Person Yu Qing’s request, Lin Huaixu arranges the Profound Heaven Sect disciples’ attendance at Medicine King Valley’s Flower-Appreciation Gathering. He ensures Shen Yuxi attends by presenting the trip as an opportunity for treatment, then helps draw Chu Shihan into joining the group. 29

Secret Realm

Afterward, he continues through the secret realm with Shen Yuxi, Wen Jian, and Ye Jingxuan. His eye for value helps the group identify valuable spirit plants, while his combat ability improves their collection efficiency. 50

Reclaiming Memories

The recollection of Lin Huaixu’s early sect years reveals his formation talent and contentious history with Shen Liangxian. He repeatedly turned Shen Liangxian’s attempts at intimidation against him, gaining the goodwill of other inner sect disciples despite his lack of influential backing. 96 97

When Shen Liangxian assaulted Shen Yuxi on Spirit Pool Peak, Lin Huaixu followed the incident and later reported it to True Person Yu Qing. His deliberately vivid account ensured that the sect master understood the extent of Shen Yuxi’s mistreatment. 98 99

Dusk and Demonic Cultivator Investigation

While secretly investigating the abductions of Chu Xuan and Song Zhiyi, Lin Huaixu suffered repeated injuries from baleful yin energy. Su Miaoxi discovered him wounded and brought him to Benevolence Hall, where Du Wei ordered him to refrain from using spiritual power during treatment. 104

Working alongside the Hehuan Sect, Lin Huaixu traced the abduction conspiracy to Dark Domain forces and helped uproot the demonic cultivators’ Heavenly Domain base. He submitted the recovered captives, corpses, evidence, and sealed materials to True Person Yu Qing. 109

During this recovery period, he also adapted Shen Yuxi’s formation ideas into concrete defensive plans. Yu Qing and Yu Qin approved the project as a means of preserving the sect’s disciples and inheritance in a future calamity. 109

Yulan’s Exposure and Aftermath

Lin Huaixu concluded that Yulan was connected to the coming calamity and deliberately pushed Shen Yuxi toward revealing heavenly secrets, leading to Shen Yuxi’s collapse.
