History

Fang Wuji ranked fifth in the Profound Heaven Sect’s entry assessment and was selected by Cinnabar Glow Peak as its representative for the Qi Repository. He displayed aptitude for alchemy cultivation and successfully gathered an Alchemical Fire Qi Seed, entering Qi Refining. 3 4

Early in his cultivation, Fang was impulsive and inexperienced. He accepted a mission to gather Fire Yang Herbs immediately after reaching the first layer of Qi Refining, only to be chased for over ten miles by a Flame-Patterned Boar and nearly lose his life. 12 He later joined Liu Yinghan in hunting another Flame-Patterned Boar, but loudly disclosed their materials, cultivation needs, and expected sale price at Blackwind Market, attracting rogue cultivators. 14 15

Fang and Liu were ambushed after leaving the market. His alchemical fire proved poorly suited to the damp fog formation used against them, and he suffered a severe wound to his waist and ribs while failing to land a blow on his opponent. Shen Qingzhou and Su Yu ultimately saved the pair from Yellowstone True Person and his subordinates. 16 17

Liu Chengyuan subsequently approached Fang after Shen Qingzhou rejected the Liu Family’s proposal. He offered Fang resources, spirit herbs, and a dedicated pill-refining room in exchange for considering a Human-Alchemical Refinement secret art involving Liu Yinghan. The proposal intensified Fang’s conflicted gratitude toward Shen Qingzhou, feelings for Liu Yinghan, inferiority, and desire to prove his worth. 24 25

Fang entered the inner sect minor tournament determined to establish himself, but Zhao Heng overwhelmed him with the Sea-Overturning Sword Art. Fang collapsed unconscious after being crushed by Zhao’s attack. 27 Over the following years, he matured, became more cautious, and formed a Dao companionship with Liu Yinghan. Both later reached Qi Refining Ninth Layer and qualified for the grand competition. 72 78

During the competition’s trials in Langhuan Blessed Land, Fang and Liu were saved from a Three-Headed Sea Serpent by Shen Qingzhou and Qin Bufan. Liu later sent a communication talisman to repay the favor. 75 76 At the edge of an island, the couple was ambushed by Merfolk and sea beasts while processing a corpse. Fang used a forbidden art and spent his final spiritual power to push Liu away, sacrificing himself to give her an opportunity to escape. 78

Personality

Fang began as hot-blooded, proud, and reckless. He was easily provoked, particularly when his competence or social standing was questioned, and often tried to compensate for insecurity through bravado. His public argument over the Flame-Patterned Boar materials and his disastrous early mission both reflected this lack of caution. 12 14

His encounter with the Liu Family exposed a more vulnerable side: Fang was burdened by poverty, debt, jealousy, gratitude toward Shen Qingzhou, and a need to prove that he was not inferior to better-supported disciples. 24 25 Repeated setbacks gradually changed him into a more careful and responsible cultivator. By his final battle, he no longer fought to validate himself; he chose to die protecting Liu Yinghan. 78
