Background

Saint Saturn is one of the Five Elders and the senior figure of the Jaygarcia Family. As the Warrior God of Science and Defense, he holds powerful authority over the World Government’s armed and scientific affairs; other Elders regard his authority as especially forceful among their internal balance of powers 1 65.

He has cultivated a network of personally loyal servants within Cipher Pol and the World Government’s military apparatus. Kessler, formerly the Director-General of Cipher Pol and Commander-in-Chief of All Forces, served Saturn for eighty-five years and ultimately accepted execution after carrying out a scheme meant to break Admiral Zephyr’s spirit 199.

Saturn serves Imu and can communicate through a contract mark on his body. During the God Valley crisis, he sought to use Rocks D. Xebec’s arrival to earn greater favor from Imu by eliminating Rocks and the Davy Clan 10 11. Despite his outward loyalty, he later views failures of Imu’s plans as proof that Imu cannot control everything, giving him greater confidence in pursuing his own aims 161.

Personality

Saturn combines familial warmth, political calculation, and extreme ruthlessness. Around Vikengam, he can joke, share tea, offer advice, and display pride that he shows almost no one else 4. He values Vikengam’s intellect, discipline, and ability to read the Ancient Language more than his piracy or bounty 46 66.

His affection is explicitly conditional. Saturn tells Vikengam that emotional investment is useful for maintaining loyal subordinates, but that he would sacrifice even his most favored junior if necessary for his own survival 171.

He is patient with capable subordinates but merciless toward failure. He praised Spandine’s skill in manipulating Cipher Pol records, while killing Bazzar immediately after deciding he had no value 45 46. He also sentenced Kessler to death despite their decades-long bond, though he granted the old servant personal respect in their final meeting 199.

Saturn is portrayed as an elderly man who walks with a cane and usually carries himself with solemn authority. He is rarely informal in public, though he relaxes noticeably around Vikengam 4 65.

Saturn’s favor gave Vikengam exceptional standing in Mary Geoise, allowing him to act with freedoms denied to other Celestial Dragons. He trained Vikengam, encouraged his Haki development, and forced the rare Cat-Cat Fruit, Model: Frost-Sky Ice Beast upon him so that he could perform well at God Valley 1 3 4.

God Valley Incident

Saturn attended the God Valley hunting tournament and refused to cancel it despite intelligence that the Rocks and Roger Pirates were approaching. He viewed the crisis as a chance to eliminate Rocks and enhance his standing with Imu 10 11.

When the pirate assault began, Saturn ordered Vikengam to remain near him for protection. He later departed the immediate area after sensing Imu’s call, leaving Vikengam an opening to pursue the tournament’s Devil Fruits 13 14.

After Vikengam joined the Roger Pirates, Saturn publicly treated the situation as a kidnapping while privately reading Vikengam’s letter and choosing not to pursue the matter further 16.

Roger Pirates and Poneglyph Investigation

Saturn covered for Vikengam’s piracy, ordered the Marines to take him alive, and arranged for his true identity and scholarly work to remain absent from Cipher Pol records 29 46. When Vikengam returned to Mary Geoise after three years at sea, Saturn confirmed his ability to decipher Poneglyphs and formally permitted him to continue traveling with Roger’s crew as an informant 66.

After the Roger Pirates reached Laugh Tale, Saturn instructed Vikengam to remain in the New World, recruit a new crew, and compete for pirate influence rather than return to Mary Geoise 171. Imu later approved this arrangement, believing Vikengam could potentially be used to control the New World’s pirate forces 162.

Conflict at Cake Island and Elbaf

Saturn joined the Five Elders’ attack on the Roger Pirates at Cake Island, transforming into an Ushi-Oni and directly assaulting Vikengam. Vikengam ultimately prioritized retreat after securing a Poneglyph rubbing, leaving Saturn’s side unable to prevent the Oro Jackson’s escape 130.

Following the failed Elbaf operation, Saturn erased the Roger Pirates from official reports, elevated Shiki’s threat level, and portrayed the failure to the other Elders as a disaster requiring Imu’s forgiveness 161.

Ohara Operation

Saturn was identified as the hidden architect behind the Five Elders’ plan to eliminate Ohara’s scholars and transfer their research to Vegapunk. The operation became politically complicated because Nico Robin—Vikengam’s daughter—lived in Ohara under the Jaygo Lucia name 221.
