Background

Meng Hongying first encountered Feng Wuhen during the disciple-selection period, ordering him to surrender his spot in the heat. Their argument immediately established her fiery temper and refusal to be defied. She later ascended the Path of Heart-Questioning alongside Feng Wuhen and Shen Ziheng, then chose her own peak master at Mount Grand Mystery. 1 2

She had left the Beast-Taming Sect after a dispute over three drops of Phoenix True Blood. Her father, Sect Master Meng, gave the blood to her elder twin sister Meng Hongyun because he believed Hongyun’s gentler temperament made her more vulnerable to bullying. When he dismissed Hongying’s hurt as pettiness, she ran away and joined Mount Grand Mystery instead. 136 137

The later exposure of a Beast-Taming Sect Supreme Elder’s scheme revealed that the sisters’ unequal treatment had been deliberately manipulated. The elder arranged their contracted spirit beasts and encouraged Sect Master Meng to give the Phoenix True Blood to Hongyun, intending for one sister to marry his grandson Jiang Huaiyu and the other to be used as a cultivation “blood bag.” 154

Hongying initially misunderstood Feng Wuhen when he threw away Xiao Yu’er’s rabbit disguise, but apologized after learning Xiao Yu’er had intended to sneak into her room and draw on her face. The incident made her far more cautious around unfamiliar spirit beasts and animals. 20

She became a target of Xu Niannian’s resentment after repeatedly calling out Xu’s hypocrisy. When Xu attempted to drug Hongying and Qin Leyan with Itch Powder, Feng Wuhen secretly switched the cups, causing Xu’s scheme to backfire. 34 35 36

During the investigation of Radiant Moon City’s kidnappings, Hongying was angered by the criminals’ vulgar treatment of women but was unable to fight in the narrow underground tunnels. After Liu Yong’s death, she summoned Dawnlight to incinerate his body and realized that the victims’ tears were an expression of unbearable suffering rather than weakness. 40 41 48

Protection of Companions

When assassins surrounded Feng Wuhen, Hongying immediately joined the battle, calling Dawnlight to force the attackers back with Flame Baptism. Afterwards, she accepted Qin Leyan’s reminder that confidence must not become carelessness. 57 58
