• Shared features: Golden hair and crimson eyes are explicitly described in the Alter Ego transformation 620.
• Alter Ego: Appears approximately eighteen or nineteen years old and stands about 1.70 metres tall. His graceful bearing contrasts sharply with the familiar unruly king 620.
• Wise King: Sajyou Ayaka recognizes him in a dream despite his clothing differing from the Gilgamesh shown in Orlando Reeve’s documents 564.

Personality

Archer Gilgamesh treats kingship as absolute loyalty to his own desires, with the king personally determining laws and punishment. He dismisses other Servants as “mongrels” and frequently withholds his strongest weapon because he considers an opponent or situation beneath it. That pride repeatedly creates exploitable openings 14 17 18 586 590.

His arrogance does not eliminate respect or generosity. After losing to Ushi Gozen, he gives Yuan Shikai a Golden Apple while threatening to beat him at their next meeting. He later agrees to acknowledge one of Yuan’s children and substitutes a rejuvenation elixir for another scarce apple 22 136.

Wise King Gilgamesh combines demanding leadership with personal warmth. He questions Yuan about Uruk’s future over wine, recognizes his apparent foresight, and acts immediately on his evacuation advice. Nevertheless, he refuses to override the decisions of citizens who choose to remain and defend Uruk 91 94.

Alter Ego Gilgamesh is polite without becoming submissive. He accepts his approaching death, mediates hostility, and prioritizes leaving Tine a meaningful gift. His gentleness does not erase his appetite for battle: he still seeks a final contest with Alcides 620 649.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Fourth Holy Grail War

Gilgamesh appears after Iskandar provokes him and fights under Tokiomi. He later joins Kirei against Yuan, binds and kills Berserker Raikou, and wounds her Master. Yuan’s prepared escape enables the summoning of Ushi Gozen, whose altered nature counters the Chain of Heaven. Gilgamesh survives her Noble Phantasm through Rho Aias and retreats through Kirei’s Command Spell 12 18 19.

After fighting Saber, he fades when the Holy Grail is destroyed. Before disappearing, he gives Yuan a Golden Apple and promises a rematch 21 22.

Defense of Uruk

Wise King Gilgamesh initially attacks Yuan for failing to summon him earlier, then accepts Chaldea’s alliance after the group captures Ishtar. He privately asks Yuan whether Uruk will survive 90 91.

After his soul reaches the Underworld, the rescue expedition helps restore him to his body. He subsequently follows Yuan’s warning to evacuate the outer defenses, supports the Tiamat assassination operation, and uses King’s Trumpet to delay her advance 94 95.

Throne of Heroes and Chaldea

Yuan establishes separate contact with Caster and Archer Gilgamesh. Both accept godfather roles, though Archer limits his commitment to one child 134 135 136.

Caster later establishes a stronghold as Gudako’s Guide. Archer, learning that Chaldea’s Talisman system permits indefinite summoning and revival, begins considering leaving Alaya’s service for greater freedom 338 535.

Snowfield Holy Grail War

Gilgamesh duels Yuan, opens with Ea, and discovers his supposed Saber opponent is a Ruler. He later joins Enkidu against Alcides, but their combined trump cards fail to kill the strengthened opponent 579 603 604.

During the assault on Ishtar’s temple, the stolen treasury key leaves him defenseless against Humbaba’s decisive blow. Tine recalls him before Humbaba can finish him. The Rejuvenation Elixir produces his unprecedented Alter Ego form, prolonging his activity without repairing his shattered Spirit Origin 608 610 620.

As an Alter Ego, he cooperates with Yuan, helps contain Alcides, and attacks ORT alongside Enkidu and Alcides. He ultimately leaves for the desert with Alcides, Enkidu, and Hippolyta to continue their legend through a final battle; its outcome is not documented 620 632 638 649.

Later Fuyuki Conflict

A separate Archer incarnation has survived the Fourth War and spent much of the following decade visiting casinos. Although he defiantly ignores Yuan’s warning about dangerous streets, he prepares defensive Noble Phantasms that save him from Alcides’s ambush 969 972.

Dark Sakura’s puppet Servants later shoot down Vimana and surround him. He resists with his treasury and chains, but loses his right hand before he can swing Ea. Artoria, Cú Chulainn, and Red A kill him. He does not return as a Grail-controlled puppet because that Grail did not summon him 975 983.

Wandering Sea Summoning

Yuan summons Wise King Gilgamesh for the Affiliation Gate’s trial. Gilgamesh feels an immediate affinity for him and signs an equal summoning contract without resistance 1050.
