Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Command Realm | 25 | The entry-level documented realm. It can provide protection against oppression and support limited operations, but cannot normally invade an opponent’s senses during high-speed combat. |
| Language Realm | 25 33 | An established Inner Power realm. Practitioners can identify exploitable ports and launch intrusions, though locating access points and attacking consumes computing resources. |
| Compilation Realm | 33 39 | Placed above Language Realm in the known hierarchy. Xiang Shan was suspected of possibly possessing power at this level. |
| Assembly Realm | 33 39 | Placed above Compilation Realm; likewise considered a possible explanation for Xiang Shan’s counter-intrusion capabilities. |
| Mechanical Realm | 33 | A higher realm named in Jingbao Kui’s account; no specific methods are described. |
| Mathematical Realm | 33 | The highest clearly identified realm in the stated hierarchy. |
| Turing | 33 | A legendary level or designation said to stand above the Mathematical Realm. Its nature is uncertain: it may refer to a person, title, group, or realm. |
Background / History
Inner Power first surfaces as a fragment of Xiang Shan’s lost knowledge. He instinctively recalls that practicing Outer-School martial arts without Inner Power ultimately leads to failure, despite initially considering the concept something from fantasy fiction 3.
After recovering more of his memory, Xiang Shan identifies Inner Power as the evolved form of ancient hacker technology. While early hackers needed screens and keyboards, Vagrants can use their Biological Brains to manipulate code and computational resources directly 10.
Xiang Shan teaches that the discipline begins with the Turing Machine, Boolean operations, mathematics, and programming languages. Its purpose is not mystical cultivation, but the use of biological intelligence to direct artificial intelligence and the networked tools that govern cybernetic life 10 11 20.
Principles
- Mathematics is the “Way”; Boolean operations are the “one.” A practitioner must understand computation at its foundation rather than merely issue tasks to machines 20.
- The Biological Brain is essential. Inner Power relies on the brain’s abilities to command Turing-machine-based systems in ways ordinary automated tools cannot replicate 11.
- Language is defense. An obscure programming language makes a practitioner’s Inner Power more difficult to trace within the network; familiar languages are easier for others to analyze and exploit 17.
- Inner Power protects agency. Without it, an enemy may read memories, seize Martial Arts Algorithms, falsify sensory input, or turn even a strong cyber martial artist into a puppet 11 16.
- Its political purpose is resistance. Inner Power preserves the algorithmic essence of martial arts through decentralized information, preventing tyrants from monopolizing or erasing it 13.
Abilities & Skills
System Intrusion and Control
Inner Power can enter terminal devices and prosthetic systems through electromagnetic signals, allowing the user to disrupt functions, alter code, or seize control when an access path is available 40 49.
- Can interfere with driver chips, prosthetic functions, and connected machines 25 30.
- Can exploit vulnerable or unencapsulated drivers by rewriting their instructions 16.
- Can escalate privileges over systems built on basic Boolean computation, even when their programming language is unfamiliar 49.
- May be used to control connected cameras, drones, or other networked sensory equipment 25 47.
Firewall and Encapsulation
A firewall is the defensive foundation of Cyber Inner Power, compared to a wuxia practitioner’s dantian. It protects the user from hostile commands and unauthorized access 21.
- Can remove surveillance protocols and hidden communication backdoors from brain chips 20.
- Can fabricate dummy data after removing spying functions 20.
- Encapsulation prevents outsiders from freely rewriting a prosthetic’s instructions; without it, a user is effectively exposed to external control 16.
- Strong concealment can make an intrusion difficult for an attacker even to detect 30.
Witnessing Technique
The Witnessing Technique is an Inner Power attack that compromises an opponent’s combat processes rather than directly overpowering their body 25.
- Can shut down a target’s “martial game” process, causing a brief but potentially fatal lapse in control 25.
- Exploits the gap between rapid cybernetic movement and slower biological neural signals 25.
- Can be performed through linked equipment and allied access points; Leif and Jingbao Kui combined their respective Outer- and Inner-School strengths this way 25.
- Requires sufficient access and processing time against defended targets; even Language Realm practitioners cannot freely invade sensory systems during rapid combat 25.
Counter-Intrusion
A sufficiently skilled practitioner can recognize, redirect, and weaponize hostile code.
- Xiang Shan instinctively repackages Jingbao Kui’s malicious command and sends it back through existing system backdoors 30.
- Returning Their Own Way, one of the Three Dragon-Slaying Techniques, implants harmful commands into an enemy’s system and can force driver chips toward overheating failure 31.
- Inner Power can locate and clear hidden traps from a defeated cyborg’s independent modules before salvaging its components 47.
Visualization and the Seed of Inner Power
Visualization methods use deliberate mental structures to prepare the Biological Brain for Inner Power.
- Xiang Shan creates a mental “halt command” by visualizing a Turing Machine in his subconscious, forming a seed of Inner Power 12.
- The method can help resist the influence of another person’s stored memories, though it cannot guarantee safety against overwhelming foreign experience 28.
- A mechanical Turing Machine can demonstrate the Halting Problem and verify that a perceived world is not an ordinary Turing-machine simulation 11.
Requirements and Limitations
- Inner Power is constrained by the practitioner’s available chip, computing resources, energy supply, and connected hardware 21.
- A powerful firewall or concealed method can prevent an attacker from sensing an accessible target or executing a follow-up command 30.
- Intrusion during combat creates an opening: identifying ports and allocating computational resources can weaken a practitioner’s simultaneous physical performance 25.
- A humanoid prosthetic body cannot project Inner Power into space without a sufficiently powerful transmitter, leaving orbital surveillance beyond direct reach 40.
- The Turing-halting method only defeats simulated systems that remain Turing-machine-based; a hypothetical hyper-Turing simulation lies beyond known human methods of escape 11.
Relationship to Outer-School Martial Arts
| Inner Power | Outer-School Martial Arts |
|---|---|
| Manipulates computation, information, drivers, and networked tools 10 11 | Specialized combat tactics derived from warfare and adapted to cybernetic bodies 10 13 |
| Defends against surveillance, sensory deception, memory theft, and hostile system control 11 20 | Determines physical movement, fighting styles, and direct combat performance 24 31 |
| Can overturn advantages in equipment and numbers through information warfare 31 | Remains vulnerable to hacking and control if practiced without Inner Power 11 16 |
| Preserves martial knowledge through hidden, decentralized data 13 | Provides the assassination-oriented physical methods intended to let the weak threaten tyrants 13 41 |
