Background / History

Miyu was born into the Sakutsuki Clan and raised in isolation within a barrier as its Divine Child. Her mother, Sakutsuki Yōko, used the clan’s wish-granting power to wish that Miyu would grow up healthy and reach adulthood; this wish concealed Miyu from Enzō’s notice for years. Yōko later perished alongside the Sakutsuki Clan during the disaster that destroyed Enzō. 7 376

At just over five years old, Miyu is discovered amid the conflict surrounding the Sakutsuki miracle. Initially quiet, detached, and frightened of the outside world, she reacts when Ritsuka is injured and instinctively grants the wish to heal her. Kiritsugu initially considers using her miracle to save humanity, while Ritsuka increasingly sees Miyu as someone who must be protected rather than used. 7 8

Miyu joins the Emiya household as Ritsuka’s adoptive younger sister. After Kiritsugu’s death, the sisters endure a withdrawn period of grief before relying on each other again. Ritsuka assumes responsibility for Miyu’s daily life, education, safety, and chance to experience ordinary childhood pleasures. 9 11 12

Despite Ritsuka’s efforts to keep her identity hidden, Enzō’s forces abduct Miyu and use her in their Holy Grail ritual. Ritsuka reaches her at Mt. Enzou and rejects the idea that Miyu is merely a tool. She ultimately uses the Holy Grail to wish for Miyu to live safely and happily in another world, sending her away while remaining behind to fight. 18 28 29 31

Miyu later reunites with Ritsuka after believing her sister had died. By then, she has shed her former identity as a Holy Grail and is confirmed as Ritsuka’s blood-related younger sister. She accepts Ritsuka’s Bishop contract and remains at her sister’s side after their return to the Emiya residence. 364 366 369 377

Appearance

Miyu is a small, fair-skinned girl whose appearance changes across different periods of her life. Her eyes are initially described as clear red, later becoming orange or amber like Ritsuka’s. 8 14 28

Personality

Miyu begins as an unusually silent and emotionally distant child. After being introduced to Ritsuka and the Emiya household, she follows Ritsuka closely, watches her daily routines, and gradually learns to voice simple wants such as playing together or asking for food. 8

She is deeply attached to Ritsuka and becomes distressed whenever her sister is threatened, absent, or believed dead. Her fear of being treated as a wish-granting tool resurfaces during her captivity, but Ritsuka’s reassurance helps establish her sense of belonging as a younger sister rather than a Divine Child. 17 28 369

Miyu is exceptionally mature and academically gifted for her age. Although Ritsuka worries that she studies too much and has too little freedom to play, Miyu reads professional-level texts and serves as her class monitor. 14 15
