On June 2, the day after Iron Man's battle with Whiplash, Fury sat in his office with a melancholy expression. Looking out at the New York cityscape through the floor-to-ceiling window on his left, he felt that he had been returning to the office more and more often over the past month.
The little bald Black man who had once loved roaming the world had ultimately ended up busy behind a desk...
"Motherfuck~~~"
"Jack! Can you explain the whole thing to me in detail?"
"There were traces of baby formula in the truck, and a Sasha Hammer even S.H.I.E.L.D. didn't know about. How did you know?!"
Jack had prepared his story long ago and had even spent an entire night getting ready. Naturally, he wasn't afraid of Fury's questioning. More importantly, most of what he said was true.
"It's simple. Not everyone is as dashing and carefree as Tony Stark, who has frolicked through countless flowers without fathering a single child."
"Would someone like Justin Hammer really have no descendants?"
"And then a little girl suddenly appeared at the production base for those robot soldiers. It was like seeing a comic relief character show up in a horror movie—completely out of place."
"Most importantly... I want to climb higher, so naturally I'll do everything I can to gather information. I've got quite a few juicy secrets in my hands."
Hearing that Jack had more juicy secrets, Fury became a little interested. He was especially curious about why Jack could lift that hammer, but unfortunately, no one had been able to give him an answer so far.
So...
"I don't know! Don't ask! If you ask, I don't know!"
"I really don't know why I can lift that hammer!"
Fury: "..."
Jack had contradicted himself at light speed, and Fury felt embarrassed on his behalf.
He had just been bragging about knowing plenty of juicy secrets, yet when asked about the hammer, he knew nothing?
After pondering for a moment, Fury told Jack to get lost. He already had more than enough on his plate these past few days: consoling Tony Stark so he wouldn't kick the bucket while also keeping an eye on the hammer in New Mexico.
And aside from those two matters, there was also the Insight Plan and the new S.H.I.E.L.D. base—Trident Headquarters. Those alone were enough to keep him busy.
And now a Sasha Hammer had appeared out of nowhere...
"Troubled times indeed..."
Looking at New York, which had only just entered June, Fury sighed.
After leaving Fury's office, Jack returned to his own. Marian wasn't there today, because the Temple's New York branch office was about to move to the Brooklyn District, and she was busy running around handling the matter.
Someone who was still temporarily demoted naturally wasn't foolish enough to go offer help.
So Jack shut his office door, took out his phone, and pretended to look at it while actually focusing on the system.
The Sasha Hammer he had practically kidnapped last night had earned Jack three hundred thousand Evil Points.
But helping Black Widow reach Hammer Industries' control room faster and allowing Colonel Rhodes' armor to break free of control earlier had cost him another ten thousand.
After adding and subtracting, Jack had only made a small profit of two hundred and ninety thousand Evil Points.
The Evil Points weren't much, but the harvest had been substantial.
Jack had once again confirmed that a massive conspiracy was hidden behind S.H.I.E.L.D., one that was extraordinarily difficult to untangle. Or perhaps it could be called the ultimate game of double agents.
In short, it was absurdly complicated.
It made Jack, a man with two identities himself, feel like a complete amateur among a crowd of triple or even quadruple agents.
"Garrett is a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent on the surface, a Hydra lackey behind the scenes, and also a member of Zodiac. That makes him a triple agent."
"Pierce looks like a double agent, but if Garrett's identity is already this complicated, who knows what the hell Pierce is planning..."
"Tsk. Looks like I need to grind more Evil Points..."
With no leads for the moment, Jack decided to take advantage of Daredevil continuing to follow Captain America and S.H.I.E.L.D.'s temporary calm to go find Kingpin and farm some more Evil Points.
Forget anything else—just moving several loads of baby formula last night had earned him a hundred thousand Evil Points. If he took on a big job, wouldn't he make several million?
So Jack set off. Jack arrived in Hell's Kitchen. Jack met Kingpin and the tough men and women under his command.
"Owl, Typhoid Mary, Hangman..."
"No wonder he can keep such a firm grip on his position. These three aren't people ordinary men can handle..."
With access to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Level Six database, Jack recognized all three the instant he entered the large office and saw them sitting on the sofa.
Owl, whose hairstyle resembled Wolverine's, was basically a budget version of Wolverine in appearance, aside from not being as handsome as the real deal.
Of course, he wasn't a mutant or a superhuman. He had merely used an experimental serum...
"Damn it, ever since Captain America, there hasn't been a single company in America that isn't developing serums..."
In short, Owl's serum gave him the ability to fly for short periods, made his bones lighter, and enhanced his senses.
He was an assassin who looked like a powerhouse but was actually light as a swallow, complete with short-range flight.
"I can deal with this one if I bring more firepower."
After giving Owl a provocative look, Jack shifted his gaze to the second handsome guy. This crew-cut man looked like a stern soldier.
But the bionic arm replacing her right arm...
Really ruined her overall image.
"Carl Burbank. Before working for the CIA, she was a priest. Not long after joining the CIA, she became a freelance assassin. Like Bullseye, she killed for money."
"I just don't know why this woman hates mutants..."
"If that entire bionic arm on her right side is dealt with first, I don't think killing her would be particularly difficult. I just need to get the first shot with a sniper rifle..."
S.H.I.E.L.D. agent training had made Jack automatically assess the safety of any new environment he entered, as well as the threat posed by those around him.
So when he saw the third beauty, he wasn't bewitched by her pretty face. Instead, he recalled the information about her.
The sexy red-haired beauty before Jack might have been the strongest of the three.
Beneath that face once worn by a film and television star lurked dissociative identity disorder.
Simply put, Typhoid Mary had three personalities.
One was timid, quiet, and peaceful.
One was adventurous, violent, and lewd.
One was cruel, sadistic, and hated everyone.
Her abilities included creating psychic shields or force fields, as well as the power to control, absorb, and create fire. She could make objects weighing less than five kilograms float, unleash devastating energy explosions, and she could also levitate and fly at extremely high speeds.
Most ridiculously, she also possessed extraordinarily powerful telepathy...
Watching Typhoid Mary wink at him flirtatiously, Jack thought, In the Marvel Universe, what I hate most are telepaths...
