Background / History

Wu Changkong was a student of Shrek Academy under Zhuo Shi. While fleeing with Long Bing from Dark Hummingbird, he was gravely wounded but still attempted to protect her. Long Bing shielded him from a lethal attack; the Golden Dragon King then possessed Wu Changkong’s body and killed Dark Hummingbird. Wu Changkong retained no memory of the possession or the battle’s decisive moments. 2 3 4

Afterward, Zhuo Shi discovered that Wu Changkong had absorbed most of Dark Hummingbird’s soul power. If properly digested, the accumulated power could raise his soul power by roughly fifteen levels. 4

Two months later, Sea God Pavilion punished Wu Changkong and Long Bing for violating academy discipline. In recognition of their part in Dark Hummingbird’s death, they were assigned to teach in East Sea City rather than expelled. They could return to Shrek only after teaching a disciple worthy of their pride. 4

During the attack on Eastsea Academy, Wu Changkong entrusted the students’ protection to Long Bing and fought two evil soul masters alone. Though severely injured, he held them off until reinforcements arrived. 12 13 14

Following the battle, he chose to become First Grade Class Five’s homeroom teacher. He intended to establish a special class if the students proved qualified and committed himself to improving their martial-soul control and soul power. 15 16

After Class Five’s tournament successes, Eastsea Academy established Class Zero with Wu Changkong as homeroom teacher and Long Bing as assistant teacher. He imposed an intensive schedule of combat, theory, and cultivation on its six initial students. He later welcomed Xu Xiaoyan into the class. 33 35 58

When Long Bing disclosed her cultivation bottleneck, Wu Changkong returned with her to Shrek to seek Zhuo Shi’s help. He knelt and asked Zhuo Shi to take him back as a disciple; Zhuo Shi accepted him. Zhuo Shi subsequently gave Wu Changkong the Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass, which Wu initially hoped might help Long Bing. 46 47 50

Wu Changkong and Long Bing were assessed together against Yun Ming. Their battle awakened their Martial Soul Fusion Skill, after which Zhuo Shi announced Wu Changkong’s appointment as a reserve member of the Sea God Pavilion, with full admission to be approved upon his next return. 51 52

After he was wounded by Nether Emperor Ha Luosa, Wu Changkong took the Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass, temporarily stabilizing his condition. He continued teaching until Zhuo Shi brought him back to Shrek. Three years after the Skysea Alliance Tournament, Wu Changkong was waiting there for Long Bing and their students while recovering. 73 74

Wu Changkong is a young, cold-faced man with blue hair and amber eyes. He is usually seen in teacher’s clothing or training attire; in battle, he wears platinum Three-Word Battle Armor. 5 12 23

Personality

Wu Changkong is stern, demanding, and direct as a teacher. He openly tells Class Five that, regardless of their present inadequacies, he will train them properly, placing particular emphasis on rapidly increasing their soul power during a crucial stage of development. 16

His harsh training is paired with close attention to his students’ limits and potential. He repeatedly tests Tang Wulin’s endurance and technique, praises his ability to continue, and personally intervenes when Tang Wulin’s awakened martial soul threatens the dormitory. 18 22 23

Despite his cold demeanor, he is deeply protective of Long Bing and his students. His first concern after waking from the battle with Dark Hummingbird was Long Bing’s condition, and he fought two opponents alone to keep the danger away from Eastsea Academy’s students. 4 12

He also trusts his students to face difficult trials. When Spirit Pagoda staff sought to disconnect Class Zero from the Spirit Ascension Platform during its confrontation with a ten-thousand-year Dark-Gold Dreadclaw Bear, he stopped them and accepted responsibility for the risk. He later praised the team’s coordination even when its attacks left him lightly injured during training. 39 40 58

Around Long Bing and Zhuo Shi, Wu Changkong is more openly affectionate and vulnerable. He listens to Long Bing’s fears about her cultivation, asks her to share her burdens with him, and seeks reconciliation with his master. 46 47

Wu Changkong’s martial soul is the Heavenfrost Sword, an ice-element sword capable of freezing moisture and overwhelming opponents with extreme cold. 3 12

Wu Changkong and Long Bing can merge their Soul Power into a golden Phoenix Martial Soul Fusion Skill. It emerged during their assessment against Yun Ming, after Long Bing broke through to level seventy. The fusion gave Wu Changkong a golden longsword and frost-like wings; its Phoenix attack prompted Yun Ming to surrender. Both participants collapsed unconscious and exhausted afterward. 51

Their lingering fusion resonance also allowed Wu Changkong to sense when Long Bing was in danger during her abduction. 66

Wu Changkong was nearly killed while defending Long Bing from Dark Hummingbird. The Golden Dragon King’s possession saved both of them and led to Dark Hummingbird’s death, though Wu Changkong remained unaware of what truly occurred. 2 3 5

Sea God Pavilion ordered Wu Changkong and Long Bing to teach in East Sea City as punishment for their disobedience. Their return to Shrek Academy depended on successfully cultivating a disciple they could be proud of. 4

Eastsea Academy Attack

As a Titled Douluo, Wu Changkong defended Eastsea Academy against two evil soul masters while Long Bing protected the students. He continued fighting despite severe wounds until Yun Ming and Zhuo Shi resolved the larger battle. 12 13 14

Class Five Homeroom Teacher

Wu Changkong became Class Five’s homeroom teacher and began intensive combat training for Tang Wulin, Gu Yue, and Xie Xie. He recognizes Tang Wulin’s abnormal potential while monitoring the risks posed by his evolving martial souls. 16 17 18 22 24

Class Zero

Following Class Five’s advancement-tournament victories, Wu Changkong became homeroom teacher of Eastsea Academy’s new Class Zero. He and Long Bing supervised its demanding training, and he defended the students’ chance to confront a ten-thousand-year soul beast in the Spirit Ascension Platform. After testing the expanded team in combat, he welcomed Xu Xiaoyan and sought entry for the students in the Skysea Alliance Tournament. 33 35 39 58 59

Return to Shrek and Sea God Pavilion Assessment

Wu Changkong returned to Sea God Island with Long Bing to consult Zhuo Shi about her cultivation bottleneck. Zhuo Shi accepted him back as a disciple. During a subsequent assessment against Yun Ming, Wu Changkong and Long Bing awakened their golden Phoenix Martial Soul Fusion Skill; Wu Changkong was then named a reserve member of the Sea God Pavilion. 46 47 51 52

Long Bing’s Abduction and the East Sea Battle

Wu Changkong sensed Long Bing’s danger through their fusion resonance and rescued her from Leng Yulai’s group. He later fought Leng Yulai over the East Sea, using Absolute Zero to overcome her Dark Phoenix power. At Leng Yaozhu’s request, he spared and restrained Leng Yulai. Nether Emperor Ha Luosa then wounded Wu Changkong while he protected the sisters, forcing Yun Ming to intervene. 66 70 73

Recovery at Shrek
