Background / History

Wu Changkong was a student of Shrek Academy under Zhuo Shi. While fleeing with Long Bing from Dark Hummingbird, he was gravely wounded but still attempted to protect her. Long Bing shielded him from a lethal attack; the Golden Dragon King then possessed Wu Changkong’s body and killed Dark Hummingbird. Wu Changkong retained no memory of the possession or the battle’s decisive moments. 2 3 4

Afterward, Zhuo Shi discovered that Wu Changkong had absorbed most of Dark Hummingbird’s soul power. If properly digested, the accumulated power could raise his soul power by roughly fifteen levels. 4

Two months later, Sea God Pavilion punished Wu Changkong and Long Bing for violating academy discipline. In recognition of their part in Dark Hummingbird’s death, they were assigned to teach in East Sea City rather than expelled. They could return to Shrek only after teaching a disciple worthy of their pride. 4

During the attack on Eastsea Academy, Wu Changkong entrusted the students’ protection to Long Bing and fought two evil soul masters alone. Though severely injured, he held them off until reinforcements arrived. 12 13 14

Following the battle, he chose to become First Grade Class Five’s homeroom teacher. He intended to establish a special class if the students proved qualified and committed himself to improving their martial-soul control and soul power. 15 16

Appearance

Wu Changkong is a young, cold-faced man with blue hair and amber eyes. He is usually seen in teacher’s clothing or training attire; in battle, he wears platinum Three-Word Battle Armor. 5 12 23

Personality

Wu Changkong is stern, demanding, and direct as a teacher. He openly tells Class Five that, regardless of their present inadequacies, he will train them properly, placing particular emphasis on rapidly increasing their soul power during a crucial stage of development. 16

His harsh training is paired with close attention to his students’ limits and potential. He repeatedly tests Tang Wulin’s endurance and technique, praises his ability to continue, and personally intervenes when Tang Wulin’s awakened martial soul threatens the dormitory. 18 22 23

Despite his cold demeanor, he is deeply protective of Long Bing and his students. His first concern after waking from the battle with Dark Hummingbird was Long Bing’s condition, and he fought two opponents alone to keep the danger away from Eastsea Academy’s students. 4 12
