Background / History

Xie Xie enters Tang Wulin's Eastsea Academy dormitory with an immediate threat: he tells the other occupants not to “try any funny business” unless they want to be beaten out. After learning Tang Wulin defeated Zhou Changxi for the dormitory-boss position, he challenges Tang Wulin himself and is pinned unconscious by Tang Wulin's invisible pressure. Director Long assigns all four dorm residents to Class Five for fighting. 10

During the freshman assembly, Xie Xie persistently questions Tang Wulin about the ability used to defeat him. When Tang Wulin abruptly leaves during the attack on Eastsea Academy, Xie Xie calls after him. 12 He later helps move construction panels and clear the academy ruins, despite complaining about the exhausting labor. 15

He becomes part of Tang Wulin and Gu Yue's close training group under Wu Changkong. He supports Tang Wulin during difficult training, calls him “Boss,” and is impressed by his unusual growth. 17 18 Xie Xie eventually trusts Tang Wulin and Gu Yue enough to share his past with them, becoming emotional during the conversation. 22

Personality

Xie Xie is initially confrontational, proud, and highly competitive. He challenges Tang Wulin immediately after entering the dormitory and later reacts with amazement when Tang Wulin passes the Level Two forging assessment at only nine years old. 10 19

Around friends, he is loud, mischievous, and easily drawn into banter. He needles Tang Wulin and Gu Yue about their relationship, protests dramatically when he thinks they intend to exclude him, and reacts strongly when Gu Yue calls him a “crybaby.” 20 22 27 He is also sensitive to being left out, though Tang Wulin reassures him that the trio's outing includes all three of them. 27

Despite his bravado, Xie Xie fears Wu Changkong's stern presence and finds the teacher's training overwhelming. He nevertheless keeps training, breaks through to the second rank, and continues sparring against opponents he considers “monsters.” 23 26

Light Dragon Dagger

Xie Xie's martial soul manifests as the Light Dragon Dagger. He uses it in close combat and carries it sheathed when helping Gu Yue protect Tang Wulin from Mu Xi. 19
