Background / History

Kaido initially dismisses reports that Ye Yu destroyed the Blackbeard Pirates, treating the newspapers’ claims as exaggeration and daring Ye Yu to come to Onigashima. His drunken temper keeps the surrounding Beast Pirates in constant fear. 13

Jack the Drought’s death transforms Kaido’s skepticism into personal fury. He learns from Morgans’s newspaper that Jack was beheaded by Ye Yu, reacts with grief, and devastates Onigashima with Thunder Bagua. 26 Kaido publicly declares that Ye Yu and the Whitebeard Pirates will pay for Jack’s death, ordering King and Queen to convene as he prepares an expedition against Whitebeard. 27

After learning that Ye Yu also killed Admiral Akainu and Celestial Dragons at Sabaody, Kaido abandons his broader assault plans to personally hunt Ye Yu. 44 He eventually catches Ye Yu near Kuraigana Island, seeking revenge for Jack. 48
