History
Founding legacy
Konoha was created by Senju Hashirama and Uchiha Madara as a shared attempt to establish peace through mutual understanding and cooperation. Their visions ultimately diverged: Madara returned to threaten the village, while Hashirama chose to fight him to protect their creation 7 8.
The battle at the Valley of the End terrified Konoha’s ninja and placed the village’s future in doubt. Hashirama defeated Madara but was devastated by the loss of his former friend; the victory preserved Konoha at the cost of their shared dream 7 8.
Sixteen years later, Hashirama died from illness at age fifty-two. The village mourned its First Hokage, then renewed its commitment to his legacy of peace, justice, and protection 8.
Tobirama’s administration
After Hashirama’s death, Tobirama Senju became the Second Hokage during a period of renewed conflict over territory and resources. Konoha faced external pressure alongside internal disagreement, but its ninja continued defending the village under Hashirama’s inherited ideals 9.
Tobirama framed the Ninja Academy as more than a training school: it was meant to preserve Konoha’s peace by teaching teamwork, strategy, responsibility, and service to future generations 6.
Sand Ninja conflict
Konoha’s ANBU uncovered a Sand Ninja plan to stockpile forces, place spies in neighboring lands, ally with rogue ninja, and launch a surprise assault on the village. In response, Tobirama increased ANBU surveillance, formed a special operations unit, and dispatched spies to disrupt the conspiracy 21.
Uchiha-led forces later secured a border outpost, which an ANBU squad occupied as a new defensive position. Their subsequent raid destroyed five Sand Ninja outposts, raising Konoha’s morale while leaving its leadership alert for retaliation 24 26.
Joint Chunin Tournament and Hidden Cloud crisis
Konoha treated the first Joint Chunin Tournament in Hidden Cloud Village as both a contest of strength and a diplomatic opportunity. Tobirama mobilized the major clans to supply fighters, intelligence, security, tactical planning, medicine, and escorts for the delegation 35 36.
After the tournament, Hidden Cloud ninja ambushed Konoha’s returning group and targeted its young participants, including Hatake Sakumo and Uchiha members. The survivors’ report prompted village-wide patrols, ANBU deployments, reconnaissance, and medical treatment for the wounded 46 47.
Tobirama ultimately declared that the First Ninja World War would begin in six months. Konoha’s clans began coordinated training, intelligence work, supply preparation, and strategic planning for war with Hidden Cloud Village 49 50.
