Background / History

The clan follows a practical, strength-centered system of care. Orphaned children receive food and occasional basic ninjutsu instruction, while exceptional talent earns greater attention, training, and privileges. Uchiha Ensei’s rise from an unsupported orphan to a valued prodigy reflects this system directly 1 2.

Following the Nine-Tails’ Attack, Konoha relocates the clan to the village outskirts. The move intensifies the existing distrust between the Uchiha and Konoha’s leadership, while Yansheng’s growing influence over the Ninja Cat Clan draws further ANBU scrutiny 6.

The clan’s political position changes when Yansheng, accompanied by Fugaku and Shisui, confronts Hiruzen Sarutobi over Danzō Shimura’s stolen Sharingan. After Yansheng forcibly reclaims Danzō’s eye, Hiruzen negotiates major concessions rather than risk a wider confrontation with the clan 9 10 11.

The settlement restores withheld relocation funds, gives Uchiha shinobi access to broader village duties and missions, and reduces part of the clan’s institutional isolation. It does not resolve the underlying hostility: Yansheng considers the arrangement temporary, while Hiruzen continues to tolerate rather than fully accept the clan’s increasing independence 11 15. Following the Cloud Village crisis, Konoha and Cloud sign an alliance agreement, while the clan becomes close to fully integrated into village life through reparations and expanded mission participation 51.

During Shisui’s disappearance, Fugaku places the clan on an emergency footing by authorizing training in the forbidden Izanagi. Later, the clan reinforces its compound with barriers, Three-Tomoe patrols, and Yansheng’s surveillance network in response to threats from Root, Black Zetsu, and foreign infiltrators 21 29 31 36.

Shisui later dies in battle, weakening one of the clan’s foremost Mangekyō holders and contributing to renewed instability within the clan 87. As Madara Uchiha’s resurrection and the prospect of an “endless dream” spread through the clan, a faction of Uchiha—including Itachi and Obito—conspires against Ensei and covets his eyes 105 106.

Ensei suppresses the conspiracy, kills a number of later traitors, and forces the clan to choose between following him or departing to join Madara. Although he permits an immediate peaceful departure, he establishes that subsequent betrayal will be punished severely 112 113. By this point, Fugaku remains clan head in title, but Ensei exercises the highest practical authority over internal clan affairs 105 113.

After the daimyōs’ disappearance causes widespread disorder, Minato mobilizes the Uchiha and Ensei’s Ninja Cat forces to suppress unrest. The clan consequently serves as one of Konoha’s principal stabilizing forces during the collapse of the old political order 181. Under Madara’s later centralized regime, Konoha itself loses its former autonomy and becomes a subordinate administrative unit, changing the political context in which the Uchiha operate 187 188.

Organization

Culture and Practices

The Uchiha Clan openly reveres strength. Powerful members gain influence and privileges, while weaker members receive only the clan’s baseline support. This culture allows Yansheng to disregard convention once his power becomes undeniable 1 2 6.

The clan is intensely fixated on the Sharingan, particularly the Mangekyō Sharingan. When Yansheng displays his abnormal Mangekyō-like eyes, gathered clansmen focus more on the possibility of a new ocular power than on the conflict that exposed it 7.

Historical clan records describe repeated attempts to force Mangekyō awakenings through genjutsu, emotional manipulation, human dissection, and engineered tragedy. These efforts contributed to the development and misuse of Izanagi and Izanami, and nearly brought about the clan’s destruction in the past 29.

Yansheng argues that this fixation misunderstands the clan’s true nature: extreme attachment and emotion, rather than simple ambition for power, are the actual catalysts for Sharingan and Mangekyō evolution 35.

The clan’s inherited records also document recurrent rebellions, betrayals, and conflicts between Mangekyō users. Ensei concludes that such internal strife, rather than a shortage of power, prevented the Uchiha from dominating the Warring States era 89. Mangekyō users historically fought over each other’s eyes as their own vision deteriorated, while even ordinary Three-Tomoe eyes were treated as valuable reserves 89 106.

The clan recognizes anyone who awakens the Sharingan as an Uchiha, and even relatives unable to awaken it remain within the clan. This comparatively inclusive bloodline practice contrasts with the Hyūga Clan’s restrictive internal marriage system 161.

The later conspiracy against Ensei demonstrates that the clan’s Sharingan worship remains capable of overriding loyalty. Several members seek Ensei’s eyes despite his status as elder, protector, and the overwhelmingly strongest Uchiha 105 106. This pattern reinforces the wider reputation of the Uchiha as a “cursed clan,” a stigma that Urashiki Ōtsutsuki states also exists among the Ōtsutsuki toward the Sharingan itself 222.

Abilities & Resources

Sharingan

The clan’s principal bloodline ability is the Sharingan. Three-Tomoe users form the backbone of its elite security and military strength.

• Three-Tomoe users can combine genjutsu and coordinated patrol tactics to incapacitate infiltrators. 29 31

Story Role / Major Arcs

Konoha Isolation

The clan’s relocation to Konoha’s outskirts and restricted role in village affairs create the political conditions that originally threatened its destruction. Yansheng rejects passive acceptance of this status and begins building independent resources through research and the Ninja Cat Clan 6 7.

Danzō Confrontation and Political Restructuring

Yansheng forces Fugaku and Shisui to confront Danzō’s stolen Sharingan, then leads them to the Hokage Building. The resulting confrontation exposes Root’s abuses, compels Hiruzen to negotiate with the clan, and establishes Yansheng as an elder and future clan head 9 10 11.

Shisui Crisis

Shisui’s capture and the danger surrounding Kotoamatsukami place the clan under renewed pressure. Fugaku responds by authorizing Izanagi training, while Yansheng’s efforts to recover Shisui ultimately draw Black Zetsu and resurrected Danzō into conflict with the Uchiha compound 21 31 32.

Shisui eventually returns with diminished ocular power but later dies in battle, leaving the clan without one of its most formidable Mangekyō users 34 87.

Cloud Village Incident

The clan’s defenses foil a Cloud infiltrator during the envoy delegation’s attempted theft of Uchiha and Hyūga bloodlines. Yansheng publicly turns the incident into a declaration of Uchiha authority, gives Cloud Village ten days to answer for its actions, and prepares the clan for war 36 37.

The confrontation does not become a full war. Konoha later reaches an alliance agreement with Cloud, receives reparations and mission shares, and sees tensions between the village and the Uchiha temporarily recede 51.

Rise as a Military Power

As Konoha mobilizes against Cloud Village, the Uchiha become the core of Yansheng’s expeditionary force. Their restored combat organization, Mangekyō-bearing leadership, and reputation from the Warring States era shift practical authority away from Hiruzen and toward the clan 37 38.

Internal Rebellion

Madara’s return, Shisui’s death, and the clan’s fixation on Mangekyō power trigger a renewed internal crisis. Uchiha conspirators meet with Itachi and Obito, discuss seizing Ensei’s eyes, and consider joining Madara’s endless dream 105 106.

Ensei suppresses the conspirators and later convenes the clan at Naka Shrine, presenting a final choice between himself and Madara. He allows peaceful departure but declares that future betrayal will result in the same fate as the rebels already killed 112 113.

Collapse of the Old Order

Following the disappearance of the daimyōs, Minato requests the mobilization of Uchiha shinobi and Ensei’s Ninja Cat forces to suppress rebellions and preserve stability. The clan operates as a major Konoha military resource amid the global power vacuum 181.

When Madara imposes his centralized peace treaty, the former great villages lose their autonomy. The Uchiha’s political significance becomes tied both to Konoha’s dual leadership under Minato and Ensei and to Ensei’s cooperation with Madara in shaping the new order 187 188.
