Power Progression

Background

Obito was presumed lost after the Third Shinobi War. Following Rin Nohara’s death, he abandoned his former identity and sought out Madara Uchiha, later acting as Madara’s puppet and representative. He repeatedly visited Rin’s grave and witnessed Kakashi Hatake grieving there, despite claiming he no longer cared about the world. 1 9 12

He orchestrated the Nine-Tails’ Attack using his Mangekyō Sharingan and space-time ninjutsu. Forewarned by Ensei, Minato Namikaze was prepared for the attack and fought Obito without holding back. Obito escaped with Black Zetsu, while Minato later fell into a coma after his chakra went out of control during the incident. Obito survived with lasting throat damage, leaving his natural voice hoarse. 5 12 53

Uchiha Ensei’s disclosure of Obito’s identity destroyed the security of his masked persona. Obito began gathering information on Yansheng through White Zetsu, became interested in Yansheng’s claimed future sight, and used Shisui Uchiha as leverage to draw him out of Konoha. 22

After Madara’s resurrection, Obito aligned himself openly with his former master despite having become suspicious of Black Zetsu. He intervened against Ensei in Sunagakure, pursued Konan following Nagato’s fall, and eventually served as Madara’s subordinate during the Fourth Great Ninja War’s outbreak. 64 75 86

Obito was later defeated and severely weakened by Ensei, but continued operating cautiously alongside Madara and the Uchiha conspirators. He eventually died at Minato’s hands after his identity and responsibility for his crimes had been exposed. His funeral was attended only by Minato, Kushina Uzumaki, and Kakashi. 87 105 106 159

Appearance

Obito initially appears in a mask and conceals his identity behind the name “Madara Uchiha.” He later abandons the mask and reveals his true face. 12 23

Personality

Obito presents himself as detached from the world, but his actions reveal an enduring obsession with Rin. Danzō’s threat to desecrate or control Rin’s body causes his restrained grief to become focused, extreme violence; he is willing to threaten Root and Konoha’s entire population to recover her. 12 13

His encounter with Rin’s reanimated body forces him to confront emotions he had suppressed. Although the experience softens and stabilizes him somewhat, he continues to support the Eye of the Moon Plan because he considers the real world too corrupt and painful for Rin to live in. 23

Obito is also increasingly suspicious of Black Zetsu. After Izanagi restores Obito but fails to affect Black Zetsu, he begins questioning Black Zetsu’s origins and connection to Madara’s plans. 24

Despite this suspicion, Obito ultimately returns to Madara’s side after Madara’s resurrection and becomes increasingly defined by his role as Madara’s subordinate. References to Rin continue to provoke immediate rage, while Madara’s curse mark can forcibly restrain his emotional instability. 64 86

In later confrontations, Obito demonstrates greater caution and relies on Kamui, spare Sharingan, and potential Izanagi use to preserve his life rather than directly challenge superior opponents. 106 110

Mangekyō Sharingan: Kamui

Obito’s Mangekyō technique is a space-time ninjutsu that enables him to evade attacks, transport targets, and access the Kamui Dimension. 9 13

Conflict with Danzō over Rin

Danzō steals Rin’s body and threatens to use Impure World Reincarnation to force Obito to capture Yansheng. Obito retaliates against Root, retrieves both Rin’s original corpse and reanimated body, then kills Danzō after learning the Human Path may restore Rin’s consciousness. 12 13 14

Hunt for Shisui and Yansheng

Obito captures Shisui and uses him to demand that Yansheng leave Konoha and meet him. His White Zetsu surveillance reveals Yansheng’s claimed ability to see the future, making that power a new objective for both Obito and Black Zetsu. 22

Break with the “Madara” Persona

When confronting Yansheng without his mask, Obito acknowledges that he is not omniscient and begins facing the emptiness behind his assumed identity. Rin’s reappearance helps him confront some grief, but not abandon the Eye of the Moon Plan. 23

Battle against Yansheng

Obito survives Yansheng’s timed Exploding Fly ambush by using Izanagi, then joins Black Zetsu and the restored Nagato against Yansheng. Yansheng repeatedly avoids direct defeat through clones, transformations, artificial humans, and Flying Raijin. 24 43 44

Alliance with the Resurrected Madara

After Madara returns, Obito openly works at his side. He obstructs Ensei’s attempt to seize Chiyo in Sunagakure, pursues Konan after Nagato’s defeat, and assists in advancing Madara’s plans. 64 75

Obito and Black Zetsu interrupt the Five Kage Summit, where Obito declares the Fourth Great Ninja War after the failure of the Infinite Tsukuyomi plan. During the confrontation, he reclaims Kakashi’s Mangekyō Sharingan through Izanagi, briefly achieves Double Kamui, and manifests Susanoo. Death and Kamui Legacy

At an unrevealed later confrontation, Minato personally kills Obito. Because Obito’s identity as the Nine-Tails’ attacker and rogue ninja is public, he cannot be honored as a war hero; only Minato, Kushina, and Kakashi attend his funeral. Minato entrusts Obito’s preserved Mangekyō Sharingan to Ensei, who later uses it to access Obito’s otherwise unreachable Kamui Dimension. 159 194
