Background / History

Bunpuku has lived alone for a long time in an ancient, neglected temple at the edge of the Hidden Sand Village. Although the temple is simple and clean, he is secretly restrained by metal shackles on his wrists and ankles, with chains embedded into the ground. He accepts this confinement with calm detachment rather than resentment. 6

He is the jinchūriki of Shukaku, the One-Tail. Bunpuku refers to the tailed beast as his “old friend” and endures the strain of containing its restless chakra. When Shukaku escapes as a strand of dark-yellow chakra, Bunpuku can command it to withdraw and force it back into his body. 6 7

After Shaye discovers the temple, Bunpuku welcomes the child’s repeated visits. Recognizing Shaye’s genuine curiosity and unusual perception, he begins teaching him Sealing Formulae, starting with basic sigils and later expanding into advanced barriers, energy-binding methods, and spatial-confinement runes. 6 8 34
