Background / History

Chiyo is a senior Hidden Sand elder and a distant relative of Chun Zi, Shaye’s late mother. After Chun Zi dies in childbirth, Chiyo examines the premature Shaye, honestly judges his constitution to be deficient, and arranges for Shaliu to leave frontline duty for leadership of Logistics Maintenance Squad Four so he can care for his son. 1

During the Second Shinobi World War, Chiyo delivers grave casualty reports to Shaliu and the maintenance division, including news of Sand shinobi killed after encountering Konoha’s White Fang. 2 She later briefs Puppet Corps leaders on Hanzō’s defeat of Jiraiya, Orochimaru, and Tsunade, correctly interpreting his decision to end the battle as a strategic move to preserve Hidden Rain. 4
