Background

Zhu Zhuqing was bound to Dai Mubai through an arrangement between the Zhu Clan and the Star Luo Imperial Family. Her engagement was tied to her clan’s survival, leaving her unable to simply sever the relationship even after learning of Dai’s contempt for her and her family. She also recalls surviving an attempt on her life by her older sister during childhood. 21 49

As a member of the Shrek Seven Monsters, she fought alongside Dai Mubai through their Netherworld White Tiger martial soul fusion. During the Six Paths of Pain’s ambush, the fusion was overwhelmed by the Split Hound; both fighters exhausted their soul power and collapsed. Dai later used his Soul Bone’s speed increase to carry her away from the battlefield. 4 5

In Jinshui City, Zhu Zhuqing devoted herself to caring for Dai Mubai’s injuries, repeatedly buying herbs and applying medicine to him. Ye Chen secretly observed her, approached her while disguised as Hinata Hyuga, and exploited her faith in Dai to arrange for her to witness his actions and hear his degrading views of the Zhu Clan. 14 17 19 20

Dai’s stated belief that Zhu Clan women existed only to produce heirs destroyed Zhu Zhuqing’s hopes for their future. Her remaining trust in Tang San collapsed when he minimized Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun’s conduct, protected the group’s unity, and helped them conceal it. 19 25

After openly striking Dai Mubai and attempting to attack him with Netherworld Slash, Zhu Zhuqing was isolated by the group’s response. She outwardly apologized and resumed caring for Dai, but internally began concealing her hatred and planning revenge. 35 36 39 41

Zhu Zhuqing ultimately left Shrek to seek Akatsuki. At its base, she declared that she wanted freedom from her assigned fate, power to protect her family, and revenge on the people she believed had betrayed her. Pain persuaded her to accept the Eye of the Moon Plan and the Infinite Tsukuyomi as a path toward a world without oppression. 44 45 46 47

Zhu Zhuqing is associated with dark clothing and an initially cold, reserved bearing. During the Jinshui City events, she is described wearing a black leather outfit; her eyes are pitch-black. 14 31

Initially, Zhu Zhuqing is loyal, dutiful, and hopeful that Dai Mubai has changed. She cares for him despite his injuries and speaks gently to the seemingly frail “Hinata,” revealing a compassionate side that contrasts with her usual cold demeanor. 14 17

Her experiences in Jinshui City transform that loyalty into grief, anger, and emotional numbness. She comes to see her engagement, Shrek membership, and clan obligations as systems that deprived her of agency. 20 28 30 45

Despite declaring a desire for revenge, Zhu Zhuqing does not immediately lose her conscience. She remains concerned for Ning Rongrong, Bai Chenxiang, and Xiao Wu, and hesitates when Akatsuki demands that she kill one of her former companions within a month. 31 46

After her confrontation with Dai Mubai, Zhu Zhuqing learns to hide her hostility behind apologies, tears, and compliance. Tang San briefly notices a wolf-like glare before she regains control of her expression. 39
