Personality

During the Hanhai Road battle, he shows resolve and protectiveness toward his companions, choosing to delay the Split Hound so the others can flee. When Xiao Wu's soul is threatened, however, his composure collapses; he kneels, kowtows, and surrenders the Hanhai Cosmic Shield to save her. 5 8 9

In the Jinshui City conflict, Tang San repeatedly prioritizes Dai Mubai, Ma Hongjun, and Shrek's unity over Zhu Zhuqing's accusations. Hanhai Road Ambush

Tang San leads the Shrek Seven Monsters toward Hanhai City and detects the Six Paths of Pain before they attack. He opens with Blue Silver Prison and challenges them to apologize, but the Preta Path absorbs Ma Hongjun's attacks and the Deva Path easily defeats Tang San's Blue Silver Overlord Spear with Almighty Push and Universal Pull. 2 3

He shifts to the Clear Sky Hammer and uses his domains to draw the Split Hound away from Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing. Unable to kill the creature because each injury causes it to multiply, he focuses on buying time for the group to retreat. 5 6

Defeat by the Six Paths of Pain

After Xiao Wu identifies restraint as the Split Hound's weakness, Tang San traps it in a Blue Silver Grass prison—unaware that Ye Chen deliberately allowed the creature to be bound. He then attacks Deva Path using Void and the Clear Sky Hammer, but Universal Pull redirects his strike into a massive boulder. 6 7

Tang San and Xiao Wu attempt a final coordinated attack using the Explosive Eight-Stage Throw. Hell Path counters by restraining Xiao Wu's soul with King Yama, leaving Tang San unable to fight. 8

To save Xiao Wu and his incapacitated companions, Tang San kneels before the Six Paths, repeatedly kowtows until his forehead bleeds, accepts the label of “unfilial son,” and gives up the Hanhai Cosmic Shield. 9

Withdrawal from Sea God Island

After Deva Path retrieves the Hanhai Cosmic Shield, Xiao Wu's soul is released in a weakened state and absorbed into Tang San's body for protection. Tang San promises not to oppose the Six Paths and orders the injured Shrek group to abandon their immediate journey to Sea God Island in favor of recovery. 10

Conflict with Zhu Zhuqing

While recovering in Jinshui City, Tang San is asked by Zhu Zhuqing to confront Dai Mubai over his behavior. Instead, he minimizes the situation, helps Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun coordinate a false explanation, and pays the brothel's owner to support their story. 24 25 27

Tang San continues insisting that Zhu Zhuqing apologize and care for Dai Mubai, presenting team unity and the planned Sea God Island journey as more important than her grievances. His support for Dai Mubai alienates Zhu Zhuqing and contributes to her decision to join Akatsuki. 34 37 41 42
