Background / History

Taiqing was one of the Three Pure Ones and held the position of Human Religion leader, deriving a substantial portion of his strength from the Human Race's destiny. During the Human Race's calamity, he and Yuanshi blocked Nüwa from aiding humanity, following Hongjun's plan to let the Demon Race obtain the Witch Slaughtering Sword and weaken the Witch Race. 3 5

When Ling Wudao rallied the Human Race against him, Taiqing attempted to kill him for exposing his schemes. Nüwa suppressed Taiqing, whose cultivation was below her Saint Fourth Heaven, while Ling Wudao summoned the Kongtong Seal through the Power of Human Dao. 6 Ling Wudao subsequently abolished the Human Religion and stripped Taiqing of the Human Race's destiny, reducing him from Saint Third Heaven to Saint First Heaven. 7 8

After being killed and resurrected with Yuanshi, Taiqing discovered that his memories of Shouyang Mountain had been erased. He moved his dojo to Kunlun Mountain and allied himself more closely with Yuanshi, though he privately feared that Yuanshi's readiness to abandon Tongtian could eventually be turned against him. 10 11

Personality

Taiqing presents himself as a composed cultivator of the Dao of Non-Action, but reacts violently when his authority, plans, or reputation are challenged. Ling Wudao's accusations were enough to destabilize his Dao Heart and provoke an attempt at murder. 6

He is calculating and pragmatic. He supported the Demon Race's campaign against the Witch Race, offered twenty Nine Revolutions Golden Pills to enlist Jie Yin and Zhun Ti in seizing the Kongtong Seal, and later chose to remain aligned with Yuanshi largely because severing that alliance would leave him without a reliable source of luck. 5 6 11

His central insecurity is his position as eldest among the Three Pure Ones. Taiqing secretly stole portions of Yuanshi's and Tongtian's origins so that he could remain ahead of them in cultivation and preserve his seniority. 70 After this secret was exposed and he was defeated, he became notably more cautious and submissive toward Ling Wudao. 71
