Background / History

Yuanshi is one of the Three Pure Ones alongside Taiqing and Tongtian. During the Human Race’s calamity, he and Taiqing intercepted Nüwa, insisting that she should not oppose the Heavenly Dao’s ordained course. He was then at the Saint Third Heaven, equal to Nüwa’s stated realm at the time 3.

The relationship between the Three Pure Ones deteriorated after Ling Wudao used a Truth-Telling Talisman on Taiqing. Taiqing admitted that he had secretly taken portions of Yuanshi and Tongtian’s origins at their birth, as well as claiming the Heaven and Earth Xuanhuang Exquisite Pagoda for himself. Yuanshi recovered his origin and gave Ling Wudao the Town Heaven Coffin in repayment 70 71.

Yuanshi’s divine-sense avatar manifests as a middle-aged man 109.

Personality

Yuanshi is proud, volatile, and highly possessive of his sect’s resources. When Sarira were planted at the scene of his disciples’ thefts, he immediately blamed Jie Yin and Zhun Ti and joined Taiqing in attacking Mount Sumeru 21 22.

He is also pragmatic when directly outmatched. Surrounded by Ling Wudao and Nüwa, he chose self-destruction rather than risk the Pangu Banner being taken. Later, while unable to confront Yuan Feng, he abandoned Yellow Dragon True Person to preserve himself and vowed revenge instead 36 110.

Yuanshi repeatedly treats allies and disciples as pieces in larger schemes. He sent Ju Liusun to infiltrate the Human Race, attempted to shift responsibility for Fuxi’s assassination onto the Western Sages, and later admitted ordering Guang Chengzi to arrange Shennong’s death 143 146 156.

Saint-Level Combat

Yuanshi possesses Saint power and can project a divine-sense avatar to intervene beyond his physical location.

• His avatar dispersed Yuan Ming’s energy staff with Saint power and attempted to strike Yuan Ming directly 109.
• He fought Chaos Demon Beasts in the Immortal Dao Divine Domain using the Three Treasures Jade Ruyi and other treasures 160.
• His later Saint First Heaven strength is below Yuan Feng’s Primal Chaos Great Luo Seventh Heaven; she crushed both his and Taiqing’s bodies with overwhelming pressure 147.

Banner Arts

Yuanshi formerly wielded the Pangu Banner and later employed an imitation after its loss.

• He refused to deploy the genuine Pangu Banner against Ling Wudao because he feared it would be seized, then self-destructed to keep it from him 36.
• Ling Wudao later retained the Pangu Banner and refused Yuanshi’s demand for its return 86.
• In the Immortal Dao Divine Domain, Yuanshi used an imitation banner to perform Creation Mystery, Myriad Dao Divine Blades, killing a Chaos Demon Beast with support from two top-grade acquired spiritual treasures 160.

Political Scheming

Yuanshi repeatedly attempts to weaken the Human Race and prevent its emperors from attaining the Dao.

• He sent Ju Liusun to scout the Human Race’s defenses and assassinate Fuxi 143 144.
• He proposed that the Four Sages jointly infiltrate the Human Race, while seeking to make Jie Yin and Zhun Ti bear the danger of killing Fuxi 144 146.
• He ordered Guang Chengzi to use demons against Shennong, later admitting the plot when confronted by Ling Wudao, Nüwa, and Yuan Feng 155 156.

Relationships

• Taiqing — Elder brother among the Three Pure Ones; frequent ally in conflicts against the Human Race. Their bond fractured after Taiqing’s theft of Yuanshi’s origin was exposed, though they later cooperated to preserve the Chan Sect 36 70 89.
• Tongtian — Younger brother among the Three Pure Ones. Yuanshi rebuked Tongtian for siding with Nüwa and Ling Wudao, and their relationship worsened after the origin theft was revealed 48 70.
• Hongjun — Teacher and benefactor; grants Yuanshi the Qiankun Cauldron and later directs him toward the Immortal Dao Divine Domain 76 158.
• Ling Wudao — Principal enemy. Ling Wudao’s actions cost Yuanshi his treasures, Pangu Banner, and repeatedly frustrated his plans 36 64 86.
• Nüwa — Enemy; Yuanshi helped Taiqing obstruct her during the Human Race crisis and later faced her alongside Ling Wudao 3 36.
• Yuan Feng — Powerful enemy who protects Yuan Ming and Fuxi. Yuanshi abandoned Yellow Dragon rather than face her and was later killed by her alongside Taiqing 110 147.
• Guang Chengzi — Favored Chan Sect disciple; Yuanshi ordered him to arrange Shennong’s death and admitted responsibility when Guang Chengzi was captured 155 156.
• Ju Liusun — Chan Sect disciple sent to monitor and assassinate Fuxi; killed after Yuan Feng intercepted the attempt 143 144.
• Yellow Dragon True Person — Disciple abandoned by Yuanshi when Yuan Feng threatened to kill them both 109 110.
• Jie Yin and Zhun Ti — Temporary allies among the Four Sages, whom Yuanshi sought to use as expendable attackers against Fuxi 143 146.
