Background

Chu Yao is the surviving descendant of the Poison Sect, an eight-hundred-year sect centered on poison refinement and gu arts. Her family’s inherited martial soul was the Myriad-Poison Gu Mother. Spirit Hall destroyed the sect six years before her meeting with Su Chen after seeking the Chu Family’s Myriad-Poison Secret Canon; Chu Yao’s father refused to surrender it, and Spirit Hall branded the sect evil soul masters. 5

After awakening her martial soul at age six, Chu Yao’s uncontrolled toxins made ordinary physical contact dangerous. She survived alone in the Star Dou Great Forest, establishing a roughly four-hundred-meter poison territory to deter soul beasts and defend against pursuers from the northeast. 5

Su Chen identified both the artificial nature of her poisonous territory and the defensive purpose behind its uneven distribution. After demonstrating that his soul power could safely block her toxins, he recruited her as his legion’s debuff support, offering food, safety, and revenge against Spirit Hall. Chu Yao accepted while insisting that she only lacked another place to go. 5

Her calm during the Emerald Nether Python hunt and her clinical dismantling of Oscar’s soul-skill enhancements demonstrate a preference for controlled, inevitable victories over direct confrontation. 21 42

Despite her detached manner, Chu Yao is deeply concerned for her companions. She treats the severely wounded Abyss Seven Generals after the Black Tortoise battle, expending most of her remaining medicine while angrily cursing them, and later offers to remove the scar on Su Chen’s cheek. 27 39
