Nature and Awakening

A Martial Soul is the foundation of a Soul Master’s cultivation and combat style. A Soul Master may awaken with innate Soul Power of varying levels; documented examples range from Zhu Zhuqing’s level-seven innate Soul Power to Innate Full Soul Power. 2 29

Spirit Avatar

A Spirit Avatar manifests a Martial Soul’s phantom and merges it into the Soul Master’s body, granting the traits of that Martial Soul. 3 11 26

• Dark Six-Winged Angel — grants physical strength comparable to a level-20 Beast Soul Master even without a Soul Ring, corrosive dark-element attacks, and a short-range domain. 3
• Soft-Boned Rabbit — provides exceptional flexibility, allowing Jiang Li to restrain Tang San’s arms and evade a Sleeve Arrow. 11 12

Soul Rings and Soul Skills

Soul Rings are acquired from defeated Soul Beasts and allow Soul Masters to advance their Soul Power and obtain or strengthen Soul Skills. 5 6

• Soul Ring absorption requires a Soul Master to withstand the ring’s power; pursuing an excessively old ring can greatly increase the risk of death for little additional benefit. 1

Martial Soul Evolution

Martial Soul Fusion Skills

A Martial Soul Fusion Skill combines compatible Martial Souls and can create power greater than the sum of its users. 37

Twin Civet

The Heavenly Origin Civet and Earthly Origin Civet can fuse into the black-and-white Twin Civet, a giant panda-like beast. 29 37

• Zhu Zhuyun and Zhu Zhuqing first formed the Twin Civet after agreeing to set aside enough of their resentment to attempt fusion. 29
• Zhu Zhuqing’s lower Soul Power and incomplete compatibility initially limited the fusion’s duration and left her severely exhausted. 29

Special Case: Summoning Grimoire

Jiang Li’s Summoning Grimoire is a Martial Soul with three primary functions: summoning, contracts, and space. 3 4

Contracts

A being that willingly signs its name in the Grimoire can be contracted, allowing Jiang Li to borrow its Martial Soul power. Soul Masters and Soul Beasts can both enter contracts. 3

• If a contractor is weaker than Jiang Li, he can borrow all of their power. 3
• If a contractor is stronger, he can only borrow power equivalent to his own level. 3
• The Grimoire initially had one contract slot, occupied by Qian Renxue; Jiang Li gained another slot after obtaining his first Soul Ring. 3 6
• Contracted Martial Souls are recorded on dedicated pages in the Grimoire and can be summoned independently before merging with Jiang Li through Spirit Avatar. 26 31
• Jiang Li’s first Soul Ring did not grant a unique skill of its own; instead, it enabled him to use the Soul Skills of contracted Spirits. 6

Summoning Space

The Summoning Space functions similarly to a Storage Soul Tool but can contain living beings. 4

• The space appears vast, but most of its landscape is illusory; initially, only an area of roughly ten square meters was physically real. 4
• It expands as Jiang Li’s Soul Power increases and may eventually develop into an independent world. 4
• Jiang Li used it to safely absorb his first Soul Ring inside the Soul Hunting Forest. 5

Effect on Transformed Soul Beasts

Xiao Wu’s contract produced a special result because she is a Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Beast in human form. 15

• The Grimoire absorbed the hidden power she could not safely use in human society, making her appear as a genuine human and concealing her Soul Beast identity from ordinary detection. 15
• Her power can gradually return as Soul Rings when she advances alongside Jiang Li. 15
• Jiang Li concealed from Xiao Wu that, if she died, she would become a soul attached to the Summoning Grimoire rather than leaving behind a Soul Ring or Soul Bone. 15
