Nature and Awakening

A Martial Soul is the foundation of a Soul Master’s cultivation and combat style. A Soul Master may awaken with innate Soul Power of varying levels; documented examples range from Zhu Zhuqing’s level-seven innate Soul Power to Innate Full Soul Power. 2 29

• Martial Souls can be inherited through clans, such as the Star Luo Imperial Family’s White Tiger and the Zhu Clan’s Netherworld Civet. 33

• Dark Six-Winged Angel — grants physical strength comparable to a level-20 Beast Soul Master even without a Soul Ring, corrosive dark-element attacks, and a short-range domain. 3
• Soft-Boned Rabbit — provides exceptional flexibility, allowing Jiang Li to restrain Tang San’s arms and evade a Sleeve Arrow. 11 12
• Earthly Origin Civet — emphasizes reaction speed and claw attacks; its black Soul Power can adhere to targets and detonate after being accumulated. 35 36
• Heavenly Origin Civet — greatly enhances strength and produces restorative white Soul Power when its user is injured. 28

Soul Rings and Soul Skills

Soul Rings are acquired from defeated Soul Beasts and allow Soul Masters to advance their Soul Power and obtain or strengthen Soul Skills. 5 6

• Soul Ring absorption requires a Soul Master to withstand the ring’s power; pursuing an excessively old ring can greatly increase the risk of death for little additional benefit. 1

Martial Soul Evolution

Martial Soul evolution can fundamentally alter a Martial Soul’s form and abilities. It is usually associated with obtaining a Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Ring or several mutually compatible Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Rings. 27

• Evolution normally affects low- or middle-grade Martial Souls; high-grade Martial Souls rarely evolve. 27
• Jiang Li’s contracts unexpectedly evolved Zhu Zhuyun and Zhu Zhuqing’s high-grade Netherworld Civets. 27
• Zhu Zhuyun evolved into the white Heavenly Origin Civet, gaining a major strength increase and injury-triggered healing. 27 28

A Martial Soul Fusion Skill combines compatible Martial Souls and can create power greater than the sum of its users. 37

Twin Civet

The Heavenly Origin Civet and Earthly Origin Civet can fuse into the black-and-white Twin Civet, a giant panda-like beast. 29 37

• Zhu Zhuyun and Zhu Zhuqing first formed the Twin Civet after agreeing to set aside enough of their resentment to attempt fusion. 29
• Zhu Zhuqing’s lower Soul Power and incomplete compatibility initially limited the fusion’s duration and left her severely exhausted. 29
• Zhu Zhuyun stated that the fused form could contend with Soul Masters below level 50. 29

Jiang Li’s Iceflame Wings

Jiang Li’s Iceflame Wings are his genuine second Martial Soul, created when the Silver Summoning Grimoire directed the Icefire Yin Yang Well’s red, blue, and white energies through his body. The Martial Soul manifests as enormous red-and-blue feathered crystalline wings engraved with minute dragon patterns. 54 55

• The Iceflame Wings were initially accompanied by an inert ink-gold Divine-Level Soul Ring that Jiang Li could not directly activate. 55
• Unlike the Summoning Grimoire, which borrows contractors’ powers, the Iceflame Wings belong entirely to Jiang Li. 55
• The Dark Demon Evil God Tiger’s Heavenly Pearl and Soul Ring later became a red Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Ring attached to the Wings. 179
• Jiang Li can have the Silver Summoning Grimoire summon the Iceflame Wings’ power without openly revealing his second Martial Soul and its exceptional Soul Ring configuration. 231

Special Case: Summoning Grimoire

Jiang Li’s Summoning Grimoire, later evolved into the Silver Summoning Grimoire, is a Martial Soul with three primary functions: summoning, contracts, and space. 3 4 54

Contracts

A being that willingly signs its name in the Grimoire can be contracted, allowing Jiang Li to borrow its Martial Soul power. Soul Masters and Soul Beasts can both enter contracts. 3

• If a contractor is weaker than Jiang Li, he can borrow all of their power. 3
• If a contractor is stronger, he can only borrow power equivalent to his own level. 3
• The Grimoire initially had one contract slot, occupied by Qian Renxue; Jiang Li gained another slot after obtaining his first Soul Ring. 3 6
• Contracted Martial Souls are recorded on dedicated pages in the Grimoire and can be summoned independently before merging with Jiang Li through Spirit Avatar. 26 31
• Jiang Li’s first Soul Ring did not grant a unique skill of its own; instead, it enabled him to use the Soul Skills of contracted Spirits. 6
• After evolving into the Silver Summoning Grimoire, Jiang Li can borrow up to two contracted Martial Souls simultaneously. 59

• It expands as Jiang Li’s Soul Power increases and may eventually develop into an independent world. 4
• Jiang Li used it to safely absorb his first Soul Ring inside the Soul Hunting Forest. 5
• The Icefire Yin Yang Well exists within the Summoning Space and can serve as the basis for resurrecting contracted individuals. 73
• After absorbing surplus Sea God’s Power, the Silver Summoning Grimoire created a vast ocean in the Summoning Space. 239

Effect on Transformed Soul Beasts

Xiao Wu’s contract produced a special result because she is a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast in human form. 7 15

• The Grimoire absorbed the hidden power she could not safely use in human society, making her appear as a genuine human and concealing her Soul Beast identity from ordinary detection. 15
• Her power can gradually return as Soul Rings when she advances alongside Jiang Li. 15
• Jiang Li concealed from Xiao Wu that, if she died, she would become a soul attached to the Summoning Grimoire rather than leaving behind a Soul Ring or Soul Bone. 15
