Background

Gu Rong was summoned from the Spirit Continent by Long Xiao alongside Qian Daoliu, Bo Saixi, and Bibi Dong. He immediately sought out his longtime companion Chen Xin, but was angered to find Chen Xin addressing Long Xiao as “my lord.” Gu Rong insulted Long Xiao and challenged his authority, only to be blasted away and have his loyalty forcibly raised to its maximum value. 2

After the group seized Black Mountain Stronghold as the foundation of the Divine Sect, Gu Rong fought in the assault but lost an attempted bid for the sect’s financial-management position to Bibi Dong. Long Xiao instead assigned him to guard the entrance, a status reversal that Chen Xin gleefully mocked. 3

Determined not to remain “a security guard,” Gu Rong resolved to cultivate seriously. His efforts were frequently derailed by his curiosity and competitiveness, including an attempt to investigate Qian Daoliu’s apparent rejuvenation in the sect latrine; Chen Xin and Qian Daoliu mistook him for an intruder and destroyed the latrine pit, leaving him covered in filth. 6 7 8

As the Divine Sect grew, Gu Rong became one of Long Xiao’s most vocal supporters. He explained the sect’s supposedly peaceful ideals to Azure City’s leaders, helped construct its facilities, performed paid labor and good deeds in Azure City, and later took on hundreds of external missions for cultivation rewards. 11 19 23 24 46
