Background / History

Ning Fengzhi was reborn with memories of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile School’s destruction during the previous life’s Soul Hunting Operation, as well as Chen Xin and Gu Rong’s deaths while protecting Tang San at Jialing Pass. This trauma initially drives him to treat Spirit Hall’s premature war as an existential threat to his sect. 6

When Spirit Hall begins its invasion, he correctly identifies Tang Hao and the unawakened Tang San as the likely targets of its campaign. He urges Emperor Xue Ye to protect them, viewing Tang San as the future key to opposing Spirit Hall. 6

Fracture with Tang San

After the Luoma Slope massacre, Ning recognizes that Spirit Hall’s amnesty decree is designed to provoke distrust. Tang San nevertheless suspects him of selling out the Clear Sky School and secretly prepares to kill him; Chen Xin suppresses Tang San before he can act. 32 33

Ning spares Tang San not out of forgiveness, but because Tang San’s knowledge of Hidden Weapons, Immortal Herbs, and godhood remains valuable. He confines Tang San and Yu Xiaogang, demanding their secrets as payment for the school’s losses. 33 34

Collapse and Failed Surrender

Ning sends Chen Xin to Sunset Forest after Tang San reveals the Immortal Herbs’ location and the potential of the Tulip of Romance. Spirit Hall has already taken the garden and prepared an ambush; Chen Xin returns mutilated and missing his left arm. 36 37 38

Convinced Tang San has ruined the sect, Ning orders Tang San, Tang Hao, Yu Xiaogang, and the Shrek members captured so they can be offered to the Spirit Hall Empire. 38 39 He later buffs Spirit Hall’s Titled Douluo against Tang Xiao in an attempt to prove his loyalty. 40

Ning’s submission fails when Ning Rongrong reveals that she had already supplied Ye Yuan with the school’s intelligence and treated the sect as her dowry. He is subsequently imprisoned beneath the Pope’s Palace, where he learns that the school has become an armory in Ye Yuan’s hands. 42 43 44
