Background / History

Yu Xiaogang is a reincarnator who retains memories of his previous life. Believing this knowledge would let him find Tang San early, elevate him beyond his former potential, and alter his own fate, he immediately rushed to Holy Spirit Village after his rebirth 8.

He arrived after Spirit Hall had ambushed Tang Hao. From the devastated back mountain, Xiaogang identified the Golden Crocodile King’s aura and the remnants of Tang Hao’s exploded nine-ring power, concluding that the timeline had been altered by another reborn individual 8. He then sought Tang Hao’s likely refuge with the Power Clan, only to find its estate annihilated. At the ruins, he recognized spatial Soul Power and the Seven Kill Sword’s aura, correctly inferring that Gu Rong had rescued Tang Hao, Tang San, and Titan and likely taken them toward Tian Dou City 9.

His pursuit repeatedly left him behind Spirit Hall’s operations. He reached Yue Xuan after Tang Hao and Tang San had escaped, deduced that they would seek the Defensive Clan in Longxing City, then arrived outside that city after the battle had already begun 12 16. His journey left him severely weakened: his Level 29 Soul Power was exhausted, his right leg was crippled, and he could no longer summon Luo Sanpao 14 17.

Unable to continue alone, Xiaogang returned to Blue Ba Academy expecting Liu Erlong to shelter and heal him. He reunited with Tang San in the academy’s rear-mountain refuge and resumed his role as the child’s teacher and adviser 18 20.

At Blue Ba Academy, Xiaogang judged that Spirit Hall possessed only incomplete foreknowledge. He proposed mobilizing the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon School, the Clear Sky School, the Four Single-Attribute Clans, medicinal supplies, and metals for Tang San’s hidden weapons 21. His plan failed catastrophically: the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon School surrendered to Spirit Hall, and Spirit Hall converted his proposed rendezvous at Luoma Slope into an ambush that destroyed the Clear Sky School’s reinforcements 27 29.

As the resistance collapsed, Xiaogang became increasingly paranoid and defensive, accusing the hidden group of harboring a traitor when the reinforcements failed to arrive 30. Ning Fengzhi later turned against Tang San’s faction, and Xiaogang was captured during Spirit Hall’s assault on Blue Ba Academy 38 39. He was subsequently chained in the Pope’s Palace dungeon, where he continued insisting that Tang San would return and overthrow Spirit Hall 43 44.

In the Death Dungeon, Xiaogang’s hopes of rescue were destroyed when Bibi Dong and Liu Erlong personally rejected him. Bibi Dong accused him of exploiting her former feelings and stealing Spirit Hall records to support his supposed martial-soul theories, while Liu Erlong openly declared her allegiance to Ye Yuan and her disgust for Xiaogang 54. Bibi Dong then left him a forbidden scroll concerning the Adversity Bloodfiend Forced Awakening Formation, secretly acting on Ye Yuan’s instructions to lure him toward Tang San in the Capital of Slaughter 54.

During a prison break mounted by remnants of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan and Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, Xiaogang escaped through the Pope’s Palace sewers using rusty wire. He abandoned Ning Fengzhi and the dying Flender, carrying only the forbidden formation and pursuing Tang San through starvation, filth, and danger for half a month until he reached the Capital of Slaughter 55.

Xiaogang found Tang San reduced to a crippled, starving survivor in a drainage channel. He used rat blood, sewer mud, and the Capital of Slaughter’s blood aura to activate the forced-awakening formation, promising that a teacher would never deceive his disciple 56. The ritual failed disastrously: rather than awakening Tang San’s Clear Sky Hammer and Blue Silver Emperor, it transformed Tang San into a grotesque, bloated, poisonous pig-like mutation permanently fused with his martial-soul possession state 56 57.

Although horrified by the result, Xiaogang convinced Tang San to seek the Asura inheritance through the Hell Slaughter Arena, reasoning that the Nine-Headed Bat King would nurture a potential Asura vessel rather than kill him 58. The Bat King later exploited their bond to coerce Tang San into daily deathmatches, crushing Xiaogang’s forearm to ensure his disciple’s obedience 72.

After Ye Yuan purified the Bat King from Tang Chen, Tang Chen self-destructed his remaining power to extract Tang San and Xiaogang from the Capital of Slaughter. Outside the Capital, Xiaogang regained access to his Soul Power and attempted to summon Luo Sanpao. The altered martial-soul origin instead recognized Tang San as Xiaogang’s martial soul, making the deformed Tang San his tangible mutated martial-soul manifestation 96 97.

Appearance

Yu Xiaogang is a lean, middle-aged man with short hair, a stiff expression, and weathered eyes 8.

• He first arrives in Holy Spirit Village wearing gray cloth garments and visibly exhausted from his urgent journey 8.
• By the time he reaches Blue Ba Academy, he is covered in mud and boils; his right leg is blackened, badly damaged, and leaking pus 20.
• Following his capture, fine-steel collar chains pierce his shoulder blades and suppress his remaining Soul Power 44.
• During his flight to the Capital of Slaughter, he becomes emaciated, wears tattered black robes, and bears untreated clavicle wounds that continue to ooze black blood 55.
• After escaping the Capital of Slaughter, he has lost one arm and remains physically debilitated from imprisonment, starvation, and the Bat King’s abuse 72 96.

Personality

Yu Xiaogang is intensely ambitious and bases much of his self-worth on Tang San’s destined future. His memories of having been ridiculed for his limited talent drive his determination to use Tang San’s rise to gain recognition, reshape his fate, and force the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon School to acknowledge him as its savior 8 21.

He is persistent to the point of self-destruction, repeatedly crossing dangerous territory while injured to pursue Tang San. However, this devotion is intertwined with self-interest: he returns to Blue Ba Academy not only for Liu Erlong, but also for shelter, treatment, and intelligence resources 18.

Xiaogang is also deeply self-deceptive. He mistakes Liu Erlong’s calculated avoidance and disgust for devoted care, which restores his vanity and confidence despite his condition 20 21. Even after his plans fail and he is imprisoned, he clings fanatically to the belief that Tang San’s future power will save him 44.

His concern for Tang San remains genuine enough for him to endure the journey to the Capital of Slaughter and attempt a forbidden awakening ritual. Nevertheless, his obsession with restoring Tang San as a peerless genius also stems from his desire to validate his own theories and reclaim his status as Grandmaster 55 56.

After Tang San becomes his martial soul, Xiaogang’s mentorship becomes increasingly exploitative. Rather than seeing his disciple solely as a person to protect, he privately regards Tang San as a possible conduit to the Sea God and Asura God powers, imagining that their martial-soul bond could allow him to attain godhood—or even replace Tang San as the Asura God 97.

Following Tang San’s transformation into Xiaogang’s mutated martial soul, Xiaogang’s private ambition shifts toward exploiting their bond to obtain divine power for himself 97.
