Background

Tang San ended the previous timeline’s God War as the wielder of the Asura Divine Sword, standing victorious over the defeated Bibi Dong and Qian Renxue. Ye Yuan then activated the Primordial Bell at the cost of his soul, reversing time and returning the continent to the past. 1

Reborn as a five-year-old in Holy Spirit Village, Tang San retained memories from two lives and initially believed his foreknowledge, Twin Spirits, and Tang Sect techniques would let him repeat his rise. His confidence collapsed when Tang Hao revealed that Spirit Hall had begun an early holy war and was advancing toward Fasino Province before Tang San had even awakened a martial soul. 1 2

Tang San begins the new timeline supremely confident in his former status as the Sea God and Asura God. He believes that memories from his past lives make Spirit Hall’s eventual defeat inevitable, but repeated setbacks replace that certainty with fear, rage, and humiliation. 1 16

He remains calculating under pressure. Even while emotionally collapsing beneath the Defensive Clan estate, he prevents Titan from making a suicidal stand and orders an escape through the hidden tunnel. 16 His survival instincts endure even after being crippled and imprisoned, as he chooses to fight the Fallen Ones rather than surrender. 45

Tang San is intensely suspicious of potential betrayal. Yu Xiaogang’s accusation against Ning Fengzhi causes him to prepare an assassination attempt despite his dependence on the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile School, accelerating the collapse of their alliance. 33

Spirit Hall’s Early Hunt

Spirit Hall identifies Tang San as a future threat and begins pursuing him before his martial-soul awakening. Tang Hao attempts to protect him from five Titled Douluo by detonating all nine soul rings, losing his right arm and much of his strength in the escape. 1 2

Titan locates the father and son, but Spirit Hall tracks them to the Power Clan estate. Sword Douluo Chen Xin and Bone Douluo Gu Rong rescue Tang San, Tang Hao, and Titan; the Power Clan is subsequently exterminated. 6 7 8

Longxing City Escape

Tang San is moved to Longxing City with Tang Hao and Gu Rong. When Ye Yuan’s Genesis Nullification destroys Niu Gao’s defenses, Tang San recognizes that Ye Yuan can defeat opponents far above his own level. 13 15 16

Rather than allow Titan to die in a hopeless battle, Tang San orders a retreat through the Defensive Clan’s hidden underground passage. The surviving group escapes toward Blue Ba Academy. 16 17

Blue Ba Academy’s Collapse

At Blue Ba Academy, Tang San regains confidence after Yu Xiaogang proposes gathering sect allies and producing Tang Sect Hidden Weapons. Spirit Hall’s misinformation campaign then fractures the resistance, leading Tang San to suspect Ning Fengzhi of selling him out. 21 32 33

After Sword Douluo is maimed in Spirit Hall’s trap at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, Ning Fengzhi turns against Tang San. Tang San is imprisoned and compelled to surrender hidden-weapon blueprints and information about immortal herbs. 34 35 38

Crippling and Captivity

During Tang Xiao’s failed rescue attempt, Tang San is left behind after Bai He is killed by Golden Crocodile Douluo. Because Spirit Hall is ordered not to kill him, Ye Yuan instead permits Hu Liena to cripple his legs by severing both heel tendons. 40 41

The figure believed to be Tang Chen abducts Tang San, but is revealed to be the Blood-Red Nine-Headed Bat King controlling Tang Chen’s body. The Bat King imprisons Tang San in the Capital of Slaughter, intending to force him through one hundred Hell Slaughter Arena victories before using him as a vessel and blood sacrifice for the Asura God’s inheritance. 41 45
