Background / History

Rescue and adoption

Tang Wulin rescues Na’er from street hooligans and brings her to the Tang household. Quiet and initially unresponsive to Tang Li, Na’er instead remains instinctively close to Tang Wulin. Her lack of a registration record leads the family to believe she may be an orphan. 13 15

Tang Wulin asks her to become her younger sister, and Na’er accepts. Tang Ziran and Lang Yue take her in with Tang Li’s approval, making her part of the Tang family. 15

Soon after her adoption, Tang Li takes Na’er with him to confront the thugs who hurt both her and Tang Wulin. Na’er notices his extreme anger and is unsettled by the violence he inflicts, though he frames it as revenge for their family. 16

Life with the Tang family

Na’er grows attached to the family, particularly Tang Wulin and Tang Li. She shares a sleeping area with Tang Wulin and openly admires the siblings’ closeness. 17
