Background / History

Little Black originated as an egg discovered in the Skyspine Wasteland by the final emperor of the Azure Cloud Ancient Kingdom. The emperor brought it to the capital and enshrined it as the kingdom’s guardian divine beast, but Great Li destroyed the kingdom before the egg could hatch. 205

After the kingdom’s fall, Little Black remained sealed for more than a thousand years as a restoration “seed” inside the National Fortune Jade. When Su Yueli entered the jade’s white-mist world, she found it as a tiny, weakened Ink Qilin-like creature. Its bloodline possessed a predatory talent: it could grow stronger through killing and drinking blood. 44

Su Yueli refused to take the weak creature into the outside world because she could not protect it from stronger cultivators. To avoid remaining imprisoned, Little Black abandoned its physical body and fused with her Shadow Fist Blade. The merger elevated the weapon to Heaven Tier, formed a mental bond with Su Yueli, and made it an evolving blood-drinking divine weapon. Su Yueli rejected its extremely long official title and named it “Little Black.” 44

Little Black accompanied Su Yueli through thirty-five years of hunting in the Imperial Mausoleum. It repeatedly consumed demon blood, helped her survive lethal battles, and became her only companion during prolonged isolation. 45

Centuries later, Little Black learned more of its past through Gu Chen: it had been the Azure Cloud Ancient Kingdom’s guardian beast, but its true birthplace lay in the Skyspine Wasteland. It remained unable to remember Gu Chen because it had not yet hatched when the ancient kingdom fell. 201 202 205

Appearance

Little Black’s natural form is a miniature Ink Qilin: pitch-black, horned, scaled, and capable of appearing either comically round and small or immense and imposing. 44 175

Personality

Little Black is intensely food-motivated. It craves demon blood, powerful corpses, medicinal pills, and even rare weapons, frequently competing with Su Yueli’s Martial Soul for its share of cultivation resources. 45 59 105 175

Despite its greed, it is loyal and emotionally dependent on Su Yueli. It protected her during battles that badly damaged its blade body, comforts her when she is discouraged, and instinctively obeys her authority when she divides resources or orders it to retreat. 45 81 105 106

Its attachment extends to its lost homeland and bloodline. Little Black grieved over Gu Chen’s failure to recognize it and pleaded for Su Yueli to spare Mo Cang, even after Mo Cang had attacked and humiliated it. 206 216
