Background / History

The Heavenly Dragon Sect is one of Dragon City’s two renowned dragon-martial-soul sects, alongside the Earth Dragon Sect. It is considered the stronger of the two and retains the heritage of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan from ten thousand years earlier. Its inherited martial soul is the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon, though it also accepts members with dragon-bloodline martial souls and has experience supporting mutated dragon variants. 5 7 9

Despite its accumulated foundations, the sect’s position declined relative to major contemporary factions because it lacked multiple Title Douluo. Its aging former sect master, Yu Xuanhua, had once possessed the potential to become a Super Douluo, but an old injury damaged his foundation, shortened his life, and ended his chance of further advancement. 6 7

A branch of the Yu Clan became estranged from the sect after a descendant awakened a mutated martial soul and left Dragon City. The sect later sought reconciliation with that branch, leading to the return of Su Ming, Su Long, and Zhou Yun to Dragon City. 5 6

Relationship with Sea Soul Masters

The sect historically reflects the continent’s divide between land and sea soul masters. Yu Xuanhua initially regarded Su Ming’s Kyogre martial soul as a disadvantage because sea soul masters were believed to be less effective in land-based combat. 6 7

Yu Xingtuo takes a more pragmatic position: Su Ming’s potential as a future Title Douluo outweighs lineage prejudice. The sect provides him with sea-soul-master instruction and a suitable cultivation environment despite being a land-based dragon sect. 7 8 9

Reconciliation with the Yu Branch

The sect sends transport for Su Ming’s family and has Yu Xingsong personally receive them in Dragon City. Su Ming learns that Yu Xuanhua was the former sect master and that Yu Xingtuo, the current sect master, is his grandfather’s biological elder brother. 4 5

Yu Xuanhua receives Su Ming warmly as a Yu Clan descendant despite Su Ming retaining the surname Su. The sect’s efforts to restore family ties coincide with its urgent need for a future guardian. 6

Investment in Su Ming

After learning that Su Ming possesses Innate Full Soul Power and Kyogre, Yu Xingtuo determines that the sect should devote all of its resources to raising him. Su Ming accepts, promising to become the Heavenly Dragon Sect’s guardian Douluo in the future. 6 7

Su Ming then reveals Rayquaza, publicly presenting it as his second martial soul. Its dragon aura surpasses the Yu Clan’s Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon and compels Yu Xuanhua and Yu Xingtuo to recognize him as the sect’s best hope for revival. 7 8

Death of Yu Xuanhua

Yu Xuanhua dies shortly after securing Su Ming’s commitment and witnessing his extraordinary dragon martial soul. His death leaves the sect without its only guardian Title Douluo, intensifying the importance of Su Ming’s cultivation. 7 9

Training and External Attention

The sect begins arranging Su Ming’s education, protection, and soul-ring acquisition. Yu Xingtuo personally accompanies him to Frostscale Marsh, where Su Ming gains his first soul ring from a nearly six-hundred-year Tidal Marsh Crocodile. 8 10

The Earth Dragon Sect becomes suspicious after Yu Tianlong acknowledges Su Ming as his elder brother. Yu Xingtuo publicly calls Su Ming “the future” of the Heavenly Dragon Sect, making clear that the sect will protect him. 12 13
