Background

Lan Fozu is one of the last two known members of the Deep Sea Demon Whale Clan, alongside her mother, the current Deep Sea Demon Whale King and future Demon Empress. Her father, the former Deep Sea Demon Whale King, lost an eye fighting Sea God Poseidon roughly twenty thousand years ago and was later killed by Poseidon’s successor. Though infamous for his slaughter and devouring of living beings, he was loving toward his wife and daughter. 21

Unlike her father and, later, her mother, Lan Fozu refused to cultivate through her clan’s innate devouring ability. She accumulated more than ninety thousand years of cultivation naturally and spent her time peacefully with intelligent Sea Soul Beasts from other races. 21

A rumor spread by Sea Soul Beasts reveals details of her father’s death, alarming Lan Fozu and prompting her to warn her mother. She recognizes that such private knowledge could indicate a scheme against their family. 21 22

After the Demon Empress agrees to sacrifice herself to Su Ming in exchange for a chance to avenge Lan Fozu’s father, she accelerates Lan Fozu’s cultivation with the Tidal Divine Marrow. Lan Fozu survives her hundred-thousand-year heavenly tribulation and assumes human form so she can safely enter the human world. 26 27

The Demon Empress intends for Lan Fozu to remain beside Su Ming after the sacrifice. While Lan Fozu is wary of trusting a human, her mother considers Su Ming both a protector and someone Lan Fozu can monitor. 27 28

Before her transformation, Lan Fozu appears as a massive Deep Sea Demon Whale. In human form, she resembles a delicate six-year-old girl with an oceanic color palette. 21 27

Personality

Lan Fozu is gentle, sociable, compassionate, and unusually principled for a member of the feared Deep Sea Demon Whale Clan. Despite her race’s ability to devour living beings, her father’s violent legacy, and her mother’s descent into revenge-driven devouring, she preserves her kindness and refuses to embrace cruelty. 21 22 30

She is devoted to her mother and deeply distressed by the Demon Empress’s transformation after her father’s death. Lan Fozu repeatedly tries to dissuade her from devouring other creatures, though she cannot change her mother’s determination to seek revenge. 22

Her innocence does not make her gullible. When told she must live with Su Ming after her mother’s sacrifice, she directly questions whether he can be trusted and considers the possibility that he may deceive or harm them. 27 28

Around Su Ming, Lan Fozu is initially shy and reserved, particularly because he already knows the name she will use in the future. She gradually becomes more comfortable after he tells her stories and jokes about the human world. 29 30 31

Human Transformation
