Background / History

Originally, the Demon Empress was a gentle Deep Sea Demon Whale who, like her daughter Lan Fozu, refused to use her clan’s innate devouring ability. Her husband, the former Deep Sea Demon Whale King, lost an eye in battle with the First-Generation Sea God and was later killed by the Sea God’s successor. Her inability to intervene left her consumed by regret over her weakness. 21 22

After his death, she began devouring living beings to gain the power needed for revenge against Tang San. Though she acted more cautiously than her late husband because Tang San had ascended to godhood, she still devoured many creatures throughout the sea. Other sea soul beast clans subsequently hunted the surviving Deep Sea Demon Whales; only the Demon Empress and Lan Fozu remained, protected in part by the whale pearl left behind by her husband. 21 29

Su Ming deliberately spread a message about her husband’s blinding and death through lesser Sea Soul Beasts. Believing the rumor might be a scheme by Tang San or the God Realm, the Demon Empress investigated its origin herself. She traced it to Su Ming, watched him in secret for two days, then confronted him at Salted Fish Village. 20 22 23

Su Ming convinced her that his three Divine Martial Souls were foreign gods opposed to Tang San. After witnessing Rayquaza, Kyogre, and Groudon, she judged their divine authority to surpass that of the Sea Gods she had personally known. 24 25

She ultimately accepted Su Ming’s proposal to voluntarily become the first soul ring of his Rayquaza Martial Soul. In exchange, he swore to revive her after attaining godhood and help her personally avenge her husband. Although she considers his promise plausible, her real priority is Tang San’s defeat—even if she is never revived. 25 26 28

Before carrying out the sacrifice, she used more than half of her Tidal Divine Marrow to raise Lan Fozu from over ninety thousand to one hundred thousand years of cultivation. She protected her daughter through the resulting heavenly tribulation, arranged for her to take human form, and chose Su Ming as both Lan Fozu’s protector and observer. 27 28

She investigated Su Ming before confronting him, tested his claims, and concluded that cooperation was worthwhile because their opposition to Tang San was unavoidable. She openly admits that she does not need to depend on Su Ming honoring his resurrection pledge as long as Tang San is defeated. 23 25 28

Her strongest remaining tenderness is reserved for Lan Fozu. She suppresses her rage to avoid frightening her daughter, risks involvement in Lan Fozu’s heavenly tribulation, and sacrifices an invaluable healing treasure to secure her daughter’s future. 22 27
