The Demon Exorcism Bureau was established by Great Yin’s founding emperor to handle demon- and monster-related affairs. It operates separately from the imperial court under its own system, with local branches managed by Demon Exorcists. 4

Demon Exorcists investigate reports, accept suppression assignments, hunt hostile demons, and enforce Bureau authority. Once an accepted assignment is taken, it must be completed; withdrawing damages public trust and discourages civilians from reporting demonic activity. 16

The position does not require indiscriminate slaughter. The Bureau has registered peaceful demon-human activity such as Lord Lu’s Mountain Fair, whose organizers possessed official documentation. 10

Entrance Assessment

Prospective Demon Exorcists must directly fight and defeat demons before joining the Bureau. The assessment formerly resembled a dangerous mountain battle royale, but later became a public arena examination against captured Mortal-level demons and monsters. 62 63

Demon-Subduing Blade Technique

The Demon-Subduing Blade Technique is a Mortal martial art required of Demon Exorcists. Unlike ordinary saber arts, it uses blood and qi to deliver concentrated demon-slaying power. The Bureau deliberately allows this partial technique to circulate as a means of screening for talent. 4 8

Restricted Techniques

Cultivation methods and martial arts registered with the Bureau may only be obtained through merit exchange. Passing one to another person—even a family member—is forbidden and punishable by execution. 8

Psychological Hazards

Repeated exposure to demonic atrocities can produce a Heart Demon. An exorcist who overcomes it may cultivate without inner obstruction; one who fails may be permanently unable to advance or even regress in strength. 26

Authority and Procedures

Demon-Slaying Orders

A Demon-Slaying Order is issued when a registered Demon Exorcist discovers a powerful demon or faces an urgent threat without time to contact superiors. Nearby exorcists—and potentially martial sects seeking Bureau rewards—may answer the call. 20 23

Ordinarily, only a Court Pillar or First Seat may issue a large-scale demon-hunting order. A Third Seat can normally mobilize only five generals and several hundred Demon Exorcists. 88

Demon-Subduing Order

A Court Pillar’s Demon-Subduing Order can project its holder’s aura and authority. Local Demon Exorcists recognize such a token as equivalent to the Court Pillar’s personal presence. 81

Internal Discipline

The Shadow Division serves as the Bureau’s internal judicial branch. It investigates, imprisons, and executes Demon Exorcists who violate Bureau law. 62
