Background and History
Founding and destruction
Ling Zhi founded the Demon Kingdom after being born to Ling Yao, a human, and a Demon Dragon. Her later connection to the Celestial Fox Clan produced a son who was sent into the Lower Realm for protection. 366
Dragonrider Island ultimately slaughtered the Demon Kingdom in Heaven Beyond Heaven. A later revelation states that its central motive was the kingdom's method of evading the Heavenly Tribulation; other explanations concerning bloodlines and personal grievances obscured this objective. 471
At the end of the destruction, the Demon Kingdom sealed the Ascension Passage between Heaven Beyond Heaven and the Lower Realm. Weaker beings from Heaven Beyond Heaven had already descended, but the Inner Abode Formation trapped them below and prevented them from reopening the route. 352
Lower Realm projection
The Demon Kingdom known in the Lower Realm was not a conventional nation located on its northern territory. It was a projection connected to the true Demon Kingdom in Heaven Beyond Heaven. Its spatial carrier vanished abruptly, leaving only the land it had occupied and scattered remnants. 276 346
The projection's remnant consciousness continued to maintain Ascension Rituals, rewards, and other opportunities intended to strengthen humans and demons. Even after that consciousness dissipated, it left extensive treasures and mechanisms behind. 350
The kingdom's secrecy meant that even self-proclaimed “Demon Kingdom demons” often knew almost nothing of its original society, ruler, or disappearance. Many had never entered it at all. 229
Successor kingdoms and claimants
The Demon Kingdom's final message promised that the Demon-Exalting Sword would seek whoever established a new Demon Kingdom. This sparked the founding of several hundred small demon kingdoms across the north. 208 229
A legitimate successor could not be created by merely claiming land. It required subjects, cities, and a functioning system; possession of a complete Nation Vein was considered necessary for recognition by the Demon-Exalting Sword. 208 258
The Demon-Exalting Sword's spirit eventually accepted Great Yin as a qualifying Demon Kingdom because Lin Jun was a demon and its commanders acknowledged his authority. 345
Yan Hua later named Lin Jun the next ruler of the Demon Kingdom. Lin Jun accepted, reasoning that Dragonrider Island would pursue him regardless of whether he embraced the title. 396
Institutions and Legacy
| Institution / Mechanism | Function |
|---|---|
| Jade Abode | The Demon Kingdom's treasure vault. Its Outer Abode contains numerous treasure-bearing Small Worlds, while the Inner Abode requires the Demon-Exalting Sword to enter. 231 |
| Outer Abode trials | Small Worlds were designed to temper true demons of the kingdom. Guardians normally attack entrants, but royal-family members were exempt from the tests. 236 |
| Ascension Ritual | Selects “Children” and “Daughters of the Demon Kingdom” to undertake missions. Participants may include demons and humans. 276 |
| Demon Kingdom trials | Distributed throughout the Lower Realm and Inner Abode, offering artifacts and rewards to those who complete their assigned tasks. 368 |
| Inner Abode Formation | Imprisoned Heaven Beyond Heaven invaders and sustained trapped Flame Kingdom martial artists through resurrection. Its eventual collapse released ancient Demon Venerables into the outside world. 352 385 |
| Scattered inheritance | The kingdom's fall spread cultivation techniques, Demon Weapons, formations, and other treasures across the world, empowering later demon factions and successor kingdoms. 208 |
