Darkness. Pure darkness.
The moment they stepped through the tower's gates, the doors behind them slowly closed with a dull creak.
Then, everything vanished.
There was no light, no sound, no presence. They could not even feel the ground beneath their feet.
It was as if they were floating in a void.
"Glowing mushrooms." Kurapika's voice rang out in the darkness, tinged with gravity.
They took out their glowing mushrooms. A pale blue glow lit up, but it could only illuminate two or three meters around them. Beyond that was pure darkness, where even light was swallowed.
"This place..." Gon held up a glowing mushroom and looked around. "It's so dark. Darker than Shadow Forest."
White arcs of electricity danced over Killua's body. Their light illuminated five or six meters around him, but that was all.
"And it's quiet," he said. "Too quiet. We can't even hear our footsteps."
It was true. They stepped on the ground without making any sound. The floor seemed to be made of some soft material that absorbed every noise.
Genos's optical lenses flickered in the darkness, but the scan results made his processor stutter slightly.
"Scan result... abnormal," he reported. "The space ahead extends infinitely, with no boundary. This is not the ordinary interior of a tower. This is an Alternate Space."
"Alternate Space?" Leorio swallowed. "What does that mean?"
"It means the inside of this tower is far larger than it appears from outside," Kurapika said. "So large that... it may have no end."
They continued forward.
After walking for around ten minutes, vague outlines emerged from the darkness ahead.
They were walls.
Walls on both sides emerged from the darkness and stretched endlessly into the distance. They were black, made of the same material as the tower itself, but covered in carvings.
